I have a safe that I can keep certain papers and items locked in (including my favorite flashlights). Are there any issues of humidity, cold, or other climate related problems with keeping flashlights in a safe?

Hello 357,

Most flashlights are corrosion resistant and should have no problems in a safe. The batteries in the lights may be a different issue. Batteries can leak and corrode the inside of lights.

I would suggest that you "unload" the lights and wipe them down with a silicone gun cloth and they should be good.

There are some reuseable silica packs you can buy. They have a blue dot in the middle, and once they absorb enough moisture, the dot turns pink. Then you just put them in the oven until they turn blue again, and put them back in the safe. I keep 2 of them in my gun safe. They have been there several months, and still don't need to be dried out. If I can locate a link I'll post it here.

Thanks for the responses. I will buy those silicone dry things.

I do keep the lights without batteries in them, I figure any light that doesn't get used often should not have batteries in it (batteries might leak and the acid can eat the inside out).

Why are you "Storing" them? Use'm and change the batteries annually at least like a smoke detector. Things in storage die. I have a dozen lights and use them all. rust and corrosion will ruin your lights. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
