I use streamlight 20XP's a lot at my work. We have about ten of them and almost all of them have a problem. When you take one out of the charging cradle and try it out it doesn't work. This also occurs when it's lying around somewhere. When you hold the end in one hand and tap it firmly in your other handpalm it works again. Does anybody recognise this and knows why?

Mylan, I assume these are duty lights that have the snot kicked out of them. Other that overage battery packs, the springs/contacts in the battery packs may be shot.

Streamllight has a good warranty. I'd ship them back a few at a time, and have them looked at.

Mylan, how old are these SL20XP's? Streamllight has excellent warranty service, and would fix them if sent in. I just noticed you are in Netherlands, so not sure about warranty service in Europe, or British Isles. The flashlight switch is the charging circuit, and controls output from cradle, as well as on off mode. There could be some loose connection also. Sounds like switches need to be changed out. They are under $10.00 in States, and could be changed out by your staff. Ask Streamlight for directions. Notify www.streamlight.com re your issues.

The small nipple inside the light which connects to the positive of the battery stick is bent. Remove the switch (by taking out the screws you see when the lamp module is removed)and inspect the nipple. Bend or reshape as needed.

You can also try stretching out the spring in the tailcap. Over time they tend to collapse.

These lights are heavily abused. Used in salt and water. A few ours ago I opened one. Some water and salt in the battery compartment and also inside the head. You get a lot of corrosion from water and salt. Battery contacts were corroded and after reading your reply's I think the contacts by the switch will be corroded to. There is no maintenance on them. O-rings were dry and dirty. The lights often fall, sometimes so hard that the bulb breaks from the reflector. Streamlight has indeed an excellent warranty service, also in the Netherlands. Free switch replacement, even the way we treat these lights. When I have time I will take one apart and look at the switches.
