It does make me think Strion LED electronics might not be super reliable since I've found a few dead ones.
After considering this a while, I asked myself: How
would I kill a Strion LED if I really wanted to? I know it wouldn't die easy. I thought:
Be the moron. It soon came to me.
I grabbed my Strion LED (standard model), dumped the cell out, and dropped in a 16340 (@4.1xV) + a 16x34 shorting (dummy) cell and screwed the tailcap back on, and hit the button.
The thing lit up just fine OTF, albeit not correctly. I had to fully press the button (as when selecting 'maintained-on', but hold the button there. Nice constant output as long as I kept my finger on the button. The light was like 'momentary on', but with a click.
Let's just say there's a bigger moron than me out there. Let's say their Strion cell goes dead, and they drop in 2xCR123As as they might in many similar appearing lights - say like my 2L-X, for example.
I'm not gonna prove it with my beloved Strion, but I'd wager at least a small amount that 'supermoron' would blow that Strion LED up instantly.
That's the best way I can think of to kill a Strion LED, but I'll let you test that with one of yours;-)
