Hey guys im 27 i have been into lights for about 4 yrs now...i have few streamlights and 2 surefires but they are all led... Now for some reason the other day my uncle (retired leo)came to my house to help me turn on the AC lol at night. He had his stinger but of course the original xenonone...now before this i had never seen one at night just at the local store during the day which gave out a really yellow beam...but for some reason i fell in love with it and like how the light brought objects to life....another words it wasnt "boring" like other leds which were just i cant explain it its wierd...DO you guys think its wierd??? i want to get one now have i stepped back in time???

You aren't the only one who prefers the warmth and colour rendition of the good old Incan lights.
Although if you like the stinger, your really going to love some of the higher end Incans, or some of the custom mods (a Rop Low is probably double then output of the stinger, and a Rop high would be 4-5 times brighter, and are easily built using a maglite, some rechargeable aa batteries in a holder, and a different globe)

Spend more time on the "incan" forum and bring your flashaholism to a whole new level, you're on the right track :sssh:

I went "backwards" as well, after much time around here! Not a bad thing at all...

I work in industry and had and used a polystinger (better grip when wet and have a lanyard loop) for years. I fried the charger over in China (oops, not 240V), after that I would bring over ~4 batteries. Then I got pulled into security after checking my bag in Beijing - fortunately i could show them the light that went with the batteries. The xenon were better than the regular halogen - but man there are some great incans around - check out the incan forum. A P91 with 2 imrs in a 6P - a CL1794 in AW's holder - MAN, great stuff. Then AW made his soft start 3 level switch. Yeah I've mostly gone over to LEDs, but the warm side. I got blown away when my superintendent & I were in a closed mill with no power (PITCH DARK). I had my 6500K (cool) SST-50 with me - he had his magcharger (bulb). No depth perception with the 6500K cool LED. Scary when you are in an industrial site & relying on your light.

Google the ROP here on CPF and then build one of them yourself. Then.... you will be *hooked.* There are many strong incandescent lights if you look for the parts and assemble them yourself. You will notice that the incans render colors better.

Before there were LEDs, I was into Incans. Then I went through an LED phase. Don't get me wrong, I have a bunch of really nice LED lights. But I only use those when size and output or runtime matter.

Then I got into regulated incans. I'm hooked! My around the house light is a 35 watt Hikari JC 5033 bulb overdriven to 50 watts in 4D maglite, regulated with a JimmyM regulator. The light holds 5xIMR 26500 batteries for ~40 minutes of runtime. For carry, nothing beats a Surefire A2.

I think that the AW IMR 16340 battery is the best thing to happen to incan lights. That coupled with high output 9v lamps really opens up the possibilities for pocket rockets.

If you're looking for a starter incan pocket rocket, I recommend picking up a used Streamlight Scorpion on eBay for about $15. Then get a Streamlight TL-3 9v bulb for $6. Put two AW IMR 16340s in, and you've got a smokin' light.

If you happen to already have a Surefire 6P/Z2/C2/G2/D2 or solarforce host, all you need to do is pick up a Surefire P90 or P91 bulb and the same two AW IMR 16340s. If you can't find a Surefire P90 or P91, Lumens Factory makes a couple of similar lamps. Either will work, but the P91 will be more overdriven, so the light will be whiter and brighter, but not last as long.

Any of these choices will blow away your uncle's Stinger.

Good luck,

-John
