Hey guys, new member here! Sorry if this has been beat to death... but I have a stream light protac HL. What kind of CR123a rechargeables have been ran in this without frying it? I searched a bit and found these... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EYHO9G/?tag=cpf0b6-20

Is that a good set? I just want to learn more about these batteries... I know they can't be 3.7V... but that's about it.

Thanks!

Can somebody advise me? I read the little stickies about it but couldn't find a perfect answer

I think you should be ok using those batteries in the HL... They show a peak voltage of 3.6v, which means a 7.2v total output. Two CR123 primaries will put out around 3.2 volts for a total of 6.4v. I think there is voltage sag or some other techno doings going on with the LiFePO4 batteries. I don't think they will last as long as primaries but at least you can charge them. I have a Protac HL that I really like, but it does like to eat those primary batteries. I've already gone through several sets. The Protac HL is now my car light and I use my Strion HL more often since I can charge it.

Don't take my word for the batteries working though, as I'm no expert, but maybe someone with more knowledge will come in and correct me.

Thank you, I was hoping someone would let me know! Are you still running the streamlight batteries in yours?

Yes...I'm running Streamlight, Surefire, or Duracell CR123A batteries. I've never tried the LiFePO4 batteries and I don't really like running multiple RCR lithium cells in my lights. I have several that run 18650s and a couple lights using singe cell 16340 (CR123A size) or 14500 (AA size) Li-Ion batteries.

For what I do with the ProTac HL, either as a car light sitting around for months until needed, or as a duty belt tactical light, the primary batteries are fine for me, especially since I have the rechargeable Strion HL for daily use.

I know Surefire sells LiFePO4 batteries for use in their lights, so I'd assume if they were good with Surefire CR123A based lights, they'd probably be good with Streamlight, but it all depends on the voltage range of the light itself, and possibly other technical details of which I'm not aware.
