I just got an old Streamlight SL-20X at work. I have it on the charger now. The beam didn't look so hot when I first turned it on. I am thinking that the battery is sort of worn out. I think I actually have a spare stick to put in it. I am thinking of getting an SL-35X lamp assembly to pop in it. Can anyone advise where is a good placed to get the lamp assembly. I seem to recall a year ago or more that some place on the web had them for $12 plus $2 shipping. Does anyone recall where has the lamp assemblies that chaep?

I did find that Texas Tactical Supply lists these for $9.99 plus about $4.00 shipping. Can I do better? Also, if I go to the Flashlight Show in Minneapolis this weekend, is someone likely to be selling something like this at the show?

An SL-35X lamp will work fine in a 20X, but you'll lose runtime.
The 35X's lamp tends to be more flood like than the 20X lamp.

Is there any danger of the lens melting from using a SL35 lamp in a SL20? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twakfl.gif
I don't believe so. The fact that Streamlight themselves offer this up as an operational alternative leads me to believe the risk is not there or minimal. Still, if it is a plastic lens, the bulb itself is an 18-20W unit and that makes it more than capable of damaging a polycarbonate or other plastic lens. If you're going to do this, I'd recommend a replacement glass lens.

Keep the plastic lens available in case of lens breakage (UCL).
flashlightlens.com has some good prices on one and two sided scratch resistant polycarbonate. Great to have on hand for emergencies while you wait for your replacement UCL, or borofloat lens.

The SL-35X lamp module does fit. I have two SL-20Xs and converted both to the SL-35X LA. In fact, upon visual inspection, you can't tell the 35X LA apart from the 20X. Also, what Ginseng said about the beam pattern. The 35X is more of a flood but still produces good throw. The two caveats:
1) Run time is reduced to ~45-50 minutes
2) Runs significantly hotter but no worries if you use UCL.
You can use the stock plastic lens but I would not recommend prolonged use: >5 minutes continuous.
