Hi all, a few weeks ago we had a coyote come up to our campfire and I really wished I had a nice long but thin beam to have a good look. I have a Milwaukee Red Lithium 500 lumen I enjoy for the variable beam, but it leaks long distance and has gone dead on me several times with little warning. I also have a Fenix pd36r and it's much better at long distance but I couldn't see the coyote at 300 feet unless the eyes were towards us. I like the size of them, but a narrower beam that went further would be nice I think. What you all suggest?

Streamlight WayPoint 400 might be what you're looking for. 1,400 lumens and 400,000 candela. About same brightness as your Fenix PD36R with much greater throw (Fenix 19,977 vs. Streamlight 400,000 candela). Best of luck.

Welcome to CPF.

Long and thin, sounds like a LEP would be ideal for your needs.

I never heard of an LEP, it is amazing and terrifying... Is it a real laser or just in name? But yes, now I want one...

Is the light cast as bad for eyes as a laser? I don't want to blind my dogs while looking for them

Very pretty, thanks.

No, it's not just in name only. These are the real deal.
If your dogs are likely to get in the way, best not to use one.

Not a LEP, but it performs somewhat similar to one; with reduced throw. But still, very impressive throw for an LED light. Acebeam P16 Defender model. Don't let the name fool you. This is not a tactical light. Though it looks like one. Absolutely geared for throw with very little, nearly non-existent side-spill. Will easily throw from one end of a very large outdoor area in pitch darkness, to the other side. Learned that from experience.

While researching the P16 I came across the 17. I like both

There's also the P18 model. But of those three, the only one I personally own is a Limited Edition P16 model. (Only difference being a custom rich Dark Green body color.)
Check out the video below to see the differences between all three:
