Hey guys,

Sorry for all the wait.
I will make this as short as I can.

The fact is Ted Bear and I have been planning this thing since September, and it's just been getting delayed and delayed. Not by our part, but some manufacturers are just having trouble getting a demo unit available.
We tried to finish this thing by October, and then before Thanksgiving, and now we're already into December.
But as you well know, after Thanksgiving, it's just a blur of events till at least the second or third week of the new year.
I think this holds true for pretty much everyone, and it's getting more crazy each passing day.

Our latest tentative date for the photo session was this Saturday. And yet another "delay" has occured beyond our power.
Both me and Ted Bear are getting drained out(even more drained out then you guys waiting. Honest!).
But we simply cannot push the date any further. It would just be impossible for us as well as the other people involved to make time after Saturday. Plus, we need to return some of the lights back to the nice people who lent them to us.

So here's the deal.
We will be doing the photo session this Saturday. Do or die.
We really wanted all the lights to be here during the test, but it seems at least a couple will be missing. So we will do the test with whatever lights we have on hand by Saturday(We still have the most amazing selection of lights ever! That's for sure!). The remaining superlights will be added later on. At least we have a couple of Superlights that we can always use for comparison. Which will show us what we need.

And here's the good part.
Anyone who can make it is welcome to come. The test will be done somewhere in the Los Angeles National Forest area (haven't decided between two places). Will let you know soon. The time will be after 6PM. Again, will let you know soon.

Just please RSVP on this thread so that I know how many will be coming.

Thanks a lot and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Hey Kenshiro...

Debating whether or not I want to drive down there... From Davis (Sacramento), nonetheless... Like someone else said, this might be a once in a lifetime to see these searchlights go up against each other at the same time on the same night and with a test that can objectively examine who's who from each other.

Ah, dang it... I'm in California anyways... And since I'm out of school for the time being, I'm up for a little "road trip"...

Let me know of time and location by e-mail at mcmxcviii(at)sbcglobal(dot)net, and then I can get a general idea of time and expenses needed for travel.

BTW, if I can make it down, I just might bring along my X990 and MaxaBeam, along with a couple of spotlights for comparison's sake...

This is so exciting!

Thank you very much for doing this spectacular test!!!

(Holding my breath...)

Kenshiro,

About the demo units, you wouldn't think that a vendor would send you a, ummmm, souped up model, would you?

Since they know what battle their baby's heading off to & all that...

wow, you guys are great! truly an experience i would love to witness...just maybe not at the expense of 4500 miles...

good luck and thanks for all of your services.

binky,
Rest assured, they are not souped-up units.
Trust me, these lights don't need to be souped-up.

In fact, they are the same demos they provide for testing to the military and other government agencies. They have dings and scratches on them, and it's clear they have been tested before.

Which is all the better for me. because I believe that these "used" lights will show off the light's true performance. Kind of like "breaking in" an automobile.

As for me and Ted Bear, we just want to get it over with.
At least we won't have to do another test like this for a while. Once we have the data archived, we can simply add periodical updates.

Mr. Ted Bear will be posting most of the individual reviews here on the forum. These will be more concise reviews.
I've been working on a web site that will have the more detailed reviews. They should both be up sometime this month.
This way, I'll save some bandwidth for the CPF and DavidW, by keeping long reviews and many photos elsewhere.

I'll put a link to the site somewhere once it's done.
As new information is obtained, it will be added, and I will also keep adding more commentary to the lights.

Thanks all for waiting.

Ken and Ted,

Thank you SO MUCH for doing this! It's a huge task.

I'm sorry that I cannot make it but with Thanksgiving so close to Christmas (one less weekend this year between, I think), it's just crazy and there are WAFs involved. (WifeAcceptanceFactors)

It've also committed to get some tapes transferred to CD for people to use as Christmas presents, so I have to get those done as well!

( see http://www.richardhess.com/tape/ )

I can't wait for Ken's Web site. I hope mine is of some use.

Cheers,

Richard

Woo hoo.... hope to see those review and those pics soon.

Everyone please take note: Before you start reading their review or looking at any of the pics they took, please do yourself a favour by getting the largest bucket in your household right in front of you. You will need it

Kenshiro:

As we previously discussed, I'd love to come. Saturday night, however, is the date of my employer's Christmas party and my attendance is obligatory.

Hopefully we'll get together later.

I'm really looking forward to this test, thank's guys!

Todd

Hey Ken,

You said that used lights will show the true performance because of break in. I did not know that. How much more will they gain when they break in versus brand new?

Thank You
Eric

FalconFX,

Your e-mail is not working.

Did you get the private message I sent you?

Eric,

The batteries need to be charged and discharged at least three times for them to come to full potential.

However, what I meant by "true performance" was "real world performance".
Not actually that the lights will perform any better, just the fact that all of the lights have been used, so none will have the advantage. They will also represent the performance that a user can except for most of the lifetime of the light.

Kenshiro,

Email is sent to you. I don't know why the e-mail didn't work. It should. I don't think it was case sensitive; otherwise it should've been MCMXCVIII...

Well guys,

It's finally tonight.
Notice that it is 3:44AM and I am still up.
WHY?
Because of this darn test!
smile.gif

Really, though.
Both me and Ted Bear are exhausted.

After tonight, I'm taking a long rest!

Nerd,
I won't be posting my pictures until the site is up and running.
But rest assured.
I'm sure Ted bear will start posting the pictures right after he gets home tomorrow!
With his usual "Guess which one's which" tease!

Enjoy guys.

The web site will have detailed info to keep you guys busy for at least a week. I think.....

...someone please remind me to go pee before viewing the site okay? Everytime bright lights are mentioned, like the Tigerlight or Maxabeam....i wet myself.
