Hey guys,
Sorry for the delay.
I've been pretty sick lately, and I needed to rest.
Still sick though.

However, I thought I would post these pictures.

This first set is the 10X zoom shots of the target which is 408yrds away.

One thing to note, the McCulloch Flood and Spot mode seem very different, but the KK flood and Spot mode seem similar, right? That's because the KumKang actually retains the tight center beam even in the flood mode. If you check out the 1X pics below, you will see a clear difference. So, it's almost like for the KumKang, you can leave it in flood mode, and you will get the best of both worlds! Impressive.

The Maxabeam "flood" mode on these shots were made to be approximately the smae size as the Megaray's flood mode. And some of you might be thinking that the MB's flood mode is not far off the light output of the KK or MC.
Not so.
Look again at the 1X pics below, and you will clearly see that the KK and MC put out MUCH more light than the MB. that's why these pics are so important.
Between the MB and MR, you can also clearly see that there is much less spill for the MR. Which is very impressive.

I've added the Vector 3M CP for reference. It really is the spotlight that performs the best. 200W is no laughing matter. The LSI RC-3800 come close, but with both lights on, the Vector simply brightens up the target better.

Wow. Cool shots. Thanks! The respective company folks should put some of these in their calendars. My favorite is the 1X showing all that amazing throw.

Poor little NHII just has nothing left after all that distance, though. Reva's dying on the vine. Amazing that some of these lights are still going so strong.

BTW: What IS that thing you're aiming at? If I didn't know it was in California I'd guess it was a hockey rink.

Also, just 2 other notes.
1. I don't know who else owns toys like those, but at least FalconFX owns some pretty cool toys.

2. You mentioned in the other thread that you've been out late getting these shots. That's probably how you got sick. Yup. I have a solution!!! The sun's been setting around 4pm here in Beantown. I volunteer myself to take the rest of the pics. In between the ice storms the air's crisp & clear. Just ship all those toys out here... to me!

It's pretty clear that the MegaRay, MaxaBeam, and NightHunter are lights much more suited for extreme throw illumination rather than general spot/flood (of course, the MegaRay may be an exception). These guys might be the ones on tripods on top of a hill or mountain spotting things down the slopes and ravines... The spill light of the KumKang and X990 are pretty cool. These lights might be the ones really great for a trail hike at night...

I'm a bit disappointed by the Long Arm in this shot. The Vector's giving it a run for its money. NH2 looks overwhelmed by the other HIDs...

Overall, though, still very impressed with the throws of these lights.

Hey Ken (or anyone else), QUESTION:

Is the MegaRay actually paired up with a 250 Watt Short-ARC?

That's a startling difference compared to the MaxaBeam's weakling 75 Watter...

Is the 250W just a misprint?
 
The Mega-Rays specs are

125W short arc Xenon Lamp (1000 hour life)
Color Temp of 5,600 K

Also, the Mega Ray uses an optical lens to vary to focal length; the only one that can actually refocus the light, while all the other lights vary the lamp's position relative to the reflector, and the correct terminology would be defocuses, as the there is but one focal point in a parabola.

It's for this reason the MegaRay is so bulky, but so much more effective when copared to the others. It is also the reason that all those present were so very impressed with the MegaRays performance/output
 
Who sells KumKang? Bright Guy sells MaxaBeam and the X990. Also, is there a corporate web site to download specs like battery chemistry, etc?

PS. Find an amateur astronomer to show you how to dress for these nights - they're used to being out all night without moving around, but usually not when it's windy.

At the moment, the KumKang is not distributed in the USA. As it utilizes a Phillips bulb, the unit we have is actually a test/eval unit more for the "bulb", than the entire light.

Most of the "specs" can be found in the intruction manual, which Kenshiro has a copy of, and when ready, will be part of his formal review on his website. I can tell you that the KK uses LiIon not ordinary NicCads of NiMh

Here's a short list of battery chemistries.

SLA - NH, MR, MB*
NiCad - MB*
NiMH - MC, NH2, RV
Li-ion - KK

* The MB has both a NiCad battery pack and a SLA battery pack. The "standard" pack is the NiCad.
 
I think they posted it at around 4500 dollars...i think.

Don't worry, the guys that took these pictures said that they will have a website put up soon that goes into greater detail about these lights.
