SuperSquashLite - Dimmable

Help Support Candle Power:

Rothrandir,

Actually, when I saw Wilkie was going to award the SuperSquashLite to me as a prize, I was wondering how to tell the poor guy what I was thinking. Despite the magnificent beauty of his creation, I just didn't want it arriving at my doorstep.

So I let the thought drop when I saw that he had cooked the squash. But please don't tell him. I wouldn't want him to find out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mr. LED Museum,

Thank you. Sincerely, that is high praise coming from a Flashaholic of your stature. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

K Horn,

I don't do eggplant. I'm afraid of eggplant. Eggplants scare me. Eggs that grow on a bush...very scary.

Thank you *very* much for this reply.
Try this thread for some pictures of my "Toylet" LS mod. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

OK, but for version two of this light, the squash should just cook itself while the light is operating. Then you'd really have something...

Ok,

I am working on a HID project, but the vegetable body is still in, um, development. Would you believe there's room for 12AAs, a ballast and miniature Welch Allyn HID module inside of a...well, you'll see. Don't hold your breath though, it's gonna be a few months. Let's just say it's gonna be the brightest freakin Jack-O-Lantern on the planet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wilkey,

Organically grown flashlight? WOW! This is the first time I saw this thread. Very Creative!

That certainly IS the brightest squash I've ever seen. (Now there's a sentence that you don't hear everyday.) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Have you tried a dried gourd for the host. They're pretty tough. Sort of like organic HA. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon6.gif And they won't rot.
Could you get a patent or trademark? It sure would raise some eyebrows at the USPO. Here's a pumpkin solar light link, but I think you still have a chance. It doesn't look at all like a pumpkin.

Have you thought about what you'll call the new one? Perhaps the "Pumpkin Cannon HID" or "PumpkinLux" or "SuperSquashLite-Ultra" or "Harvest Blaster" or "GardenLux". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

How about a cucumber version for EDC. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Keep us posted. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/popcorn.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hahaha! Pete, very creative names. I like them, especially "Harvest Blaster". Sounds like it could be a light, an insecticide or a dietary fiber supplement. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I have seen some very nice gourds. Don't the Masai use them to hold water? However, I just don't think a dried gourd is challenging enough. Now one of those dried puffed-up pufferfish, that would be truly interesting. And so, the FuguLux is born /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wilkey

BTW, I was outside shining my lights in this downpour. Lots of fun!

You're right. Harvest Blaster could be confusing. I hadn't thought of the other implications. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Yes. Gourds are used to collect water and to drink from by the Masai and others. With a light in one it would be alot easier to get a drink in the middle of the night. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

The FuguLux. COOL! But what about the spines? Definitely not a pocket carry light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

(It isn't raining all that hard here yet. I'm kind of hoping for a thunderstorm. I liked the one we had several weeks back when it was raining buckets with an awesome light and sound show! I sat under my porch at 1 AM and watched it all. Stood in it for a minute, drenched but refreshing. Had my AAA and LS out that night. Used them to check our car windows were closed and to check on our rabbit.)

Hey guys. I thought Rhode Island was not large enough to collect any rain. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Paul

Oh, it's large enough. But it runs off pretty quickly into the Atlantic. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Hey, I thought it wasn't large enough to collect 2 flashaholics, but here we are. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hehe,

Considering that the highest point in RI is only some 800 ft above sea level, I'm amazed the rain doesn't just pool up. I remember drinking beer on the front lawn of my summer apartment at college and getting flash drenched. Hot, wet and drunk.

Hmmm, isn't Maryland a pretty small state as well? I read that Texas has the equivalent to something like 267 times the land area of Rhode Island. I was amazed. I thought it was more like 500-600 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Wilkey

Wilkey,

It's clear in this thread that you not only work hard but play hard. Each mode is represented by a food -- squash or beer. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep, Maryland is a tiny little place, hot and humid. It seems that it rains one year and is dry the next. And it's very hilly. Good to take into account for those wet-year floods.

I seem to remember a science experiment from school using a zinc and copper electrodes in a potato to generate electricity. Have you considered an eco-friendly Spudlight?

how many potatoes would it take to power one of your superbulbs? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
