Re: 18mm Bore Services: Surefire P and C series

The 6P is right but we don't offer bore services on Z's, Z2 or Z3.

Sorry,
Dan

Hi Dan,

Just checking but you can bore the 9P correct? You probably already know but the Z3 is basically a 9P in disguise :twothumbs

Let me know if that makes a difference.

Thank you,

Gary

Yes, too thin in the middle,
There is enough to bore out, but the material left would be too thin to guarantee the structure of it.

Also, I have found that some of the SF bodies bores are not quite perfectly concentric with the outside surface from the factory. This greatly increases the chance of a very thin wall and/or a breakthrough while boring.

Re: 18mm Bore Services: Surefire P and C series

Tubes of the G series are lined with an inner shell of metal, providing electrical conductivity naturally available in metal tubed bodies. Enlarging one would mean removing the metal, boring the plastic, then either altering the metal or replacing it outright. The final cost would be much more than buying an entire metal bodied light.

The 2nd best option is replacing the G2 body with a bored 6P body, as available here.

Are there any plastic bodies that fit 18650's?

Re: 18mm Bore Services: Surefire P and C series

No Z2's and Z3's, but what about the 9Z's etc?

It appears to have the same taper as the Z3, but perhaps thicker like the M3.

The key issue here is less about the possibility of doing something than our willingness to undertake the job and then guarantee the work (a much tougher standard). What we've seen so far tells us not to try. But we'll keep your request in mind.

I don't believe so. The issue here is one of economics.

Plastic is either carved (really expensive) or molded (really cheap, but only in volume). The only groups besides SF willing to invest in such tooling are in Asia. But these guys already produce aluminum hosts for $20. There's not much room below that and few people are willing to pay more for what would essentially be a plastic clone when they can get a metal one for the same price or not much more.

Re: 18mm Bore Services: Surefire P and C series (batch in process)

Quick update.

All the bodies arrived last week. Boring was scheduled for today but was pushed down the priority list by another urgent project. We are now scheduled for Oct 5th and I expect to ship finished bodies out later that week.

Sorry for the delay,
Dan

Batch B could be as early as later next month!

Hi there. I'm very new to this site and all this in general, so forgive a potentially stupid question - Can you bore the M3?

Thanks,
Andy.
