SF web site says it is PYREX. SF customer service told me it is Lexan. They sent me a replacement bezel for my 3 yr old (give or take) 8NX and it is Lexan. Is there a pyrex bezel available ?

I thought the 8NX was by now Pyrex...
I knew is was changing to Pyrex. At least that what I was told a while ago.

madecov that's strange because I must have bought my 8nx 2 years ago at least and mine's certainly Pyrex. Just now I got my light and tapped on it to double-check. Maybe the replacement stock is just plain older than the sales stock of the complete light. Time sorta stood still for the 8nx while it was off the shelves while the battery issue was being worked out.

Whatever the reason, I'd recommend you query the SF customer service (again) to ask for a Pyrex replacement.

Guys,

What's safe run time of 8NX? I worries about warming up - glass and so on. And this model have no permanent switch (as I hope maybe to disable permanent light?).

Please help. I just want to test batteries for the full run time.

There is no risk that I'm aware of damaging the Nitrolon polymer bezel through heat generated by the light itself.

The glass window is Pyrex and can handle thermal shock (a cold flashlight being switched on and heating up.

The 8NX can be activated 'constant-on' by tightening the bezel onto the body. However, there is no "LockOut" feature for disabling the push-button pressure switch so be careful how you carry and store it so that you prevent accidental activation.

Once you notice a significant drop in output you should switch off the light and recharge the battery.

After 15 minutes of run, 8NX begins to smells bad. I turned off it and checked bulb. Ceramic lamp socket appears partially black and smells very bad. Looks like something burned inside lamp socket. It works now, but just smells bad :(

I use factory installed X80 lamp assy.

I would contact Surefire and see what they say. They are very good at replacing bad components.
