Surefire 9P-PH beam question

I have bought a 4 year old Surefire 9P-PH from a friend of mine today. He has only used 4 sets of batteries so far. It works fine with the P90 light assembly, but I noticed a dark spot in the center of the beam. Is it normal that the P90 has a shadow in the center of the beam ? Do I have to replace the light assembly ? Any help is very much appreciated.

It is not normal for there to be any dark spots in the centre of the beam. I guess that your friend dropped the flashlight and defocused the beam. I suggest you get yourself a new P90 and keep the old one as a spare.

You don't have to replace the P90. I would guess that it has proven how robust it is but personally I wouldn't use it.

May I ask, what is a 9P-PH ?
I don't recall having heard of a -PH unless it refers to purple coloured anodising or something?

I do not know what -PH means either. I just thought it might be of any importance to mention it.
 
Here in Germany the main Distributor for SureFire is PH-import. Formally lights bought at his store had the letters "PH" behind their flahslight name. E.g. 3P-PH or 9P-PH. Strangely my 9N and other lights I got from him didn't have this addon. I believe the newer lights don't have this anymore.
I also remember SureFire lights from the Swiss with a CH behind their name (6P-CH).
 
Yes, I have seen one picture of a tailcap somewhere. Hopefully I will find one. The model itself was 100% identical to the US-version, only on the tailcap it had that "PH". My 3P might have it - don't have it at hand right now, will take a closer look at the next possible moment. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
