Surefire E1B and XM-L

Hmm... I have one remaining XM-L on a 14mm star and itchy fingers.



After the success of butchering an older 4th-gen KL1, I'm wondering if I can double the E1B's output. Here are the calculations:



Stock E1B, 80lu OTF

Worked out to be roughly 700mA to the emitter or thereabouts on a 90% efficient converter based on tailcap draw

XM-L is 290 lumens at 700mA, derate 0.66, possibly as high as 191 OTF??!! Single-cell toothless E2DL, here I come!!!!



Now I'm really tempted.

Anyone ever do this? Looking for a flashlight with an XM-L 1x123, 1 mode, and as small as possible.

I like the idea, in my short experience I've found that the TIR optic of the E1b does not do the XM-L justice. It seems more floody than the throw the XR-E provides. I built an E1e head with an XM-L using a modified Quark reflector that had okay throw, given the size of the E1b head I would think you could fit a deep reflector into it.

I'm OK with loosing some throw and having a very floody beam. Looking to light up a room. Not something more than 50 yards away.
