Hi folks,

Definite newbie altert here...

I am trying to decide on either the E1E or the E2E from SureFire. Either of these I believe will suit my requirements but I cannot find any mention of how waterproof they are. I know the Inova X5 states it is waterproof to 150 feet (maybe I should get that one) but does anyone know if the SureFires are water resistant.

I certainly don't need to use it underwater so I am not after a diving or fully waterproof lamp as such. I would like to know if I dropped it in a pool or if it did get wet that it wouldn't be a problem.

Thankyou all, it has proved to be extremely interesting reading on these forums...

I think you're fine if you drop an executive series in a pool. I don't think you can leave it there for very long, at least not in the deep end. I think I saw a thread on this at Surefire's discussion board.

We've had several folks who've taken their Surefires for a swim. I can't remember the specific results, but I'm sure the guilty parties will stumble across this thread soon enough.

I can tell you from experience that my E2e is plenty happy visiting the 9' deep end of the neighbor's pool. Fun to play with at night

The E1e and E2e are both good for at least 10 feet. The E1 and E2 are not advertised as waterproof, but water-resistant.

If you want this as your first SureFire I'd seriously recommend the 2-cell rather than the 1-cell. The difference in size is just the length of a single 123, but the extra brightness you get is amazing. The 2-cells are still very easy to EDC.
Also, you now have the option of a 150 minute runtime 25 Lumen MN02 as well as the 60 Lumen MN03.

(OK, I can't remember the MN03 runtime ...... )

Double o-ring sealed SureFire TailCaps are designed to be able to handle some rotation underwater. Bezels, and other single o-ring sealed threads should be clean and tight before going underwater and not rotated.

SureFire have special models with stiffened switches for going deeper.

I guess the best way to go is have the TailCap screwed on tight. I am confident that the E2e will be water-proof for accidental submergence, but I would not pick the E2e from SureFire's range for underwater use. The M2 would be a better alternative save for an "N" Certified model with H option waterproof switch or K option stiffened waterproof switch. Such a SureFire could handle depths down to 30 metres. Some Dealers may have such models in stock. Due to high volumes 'Military' orders, I recall that SureFire were not offering the pressure testing service at this time. If you require a waterproof SureFire, I suggest you call SureFire to check out your options.

M3N - if you can get one...

Try calling P.Kim at SureFire, he may be able to help you

Thanks all. This sounds good enough for me. I have taken the plunge (so to speak) and ordered the E2E.

Now, where is my new toy...
