SureFire E2D LED Defender or the Fenix TK11 R2

I have not had the TK11...but have had a E2DL and a Fenix T1 as well as the Olight M20 R2 whith the smooth reflector....which should be pretty similar in output to the TK11 R2.

My observations are as follows, The E2DL is a great light with a VERY nice medium spot beam that had decent throw out to 50 yards or so...and I like its beam a ton from 10-30 yards where its hotspot is almost just perfect.

The TK11 will be somewhat brighter...especially in spill and will out throw the E2DL... but within 30 yards, you might like the bigger hotspot of the E2DL better.

As for quality, I could easily trust my life to either light. IMHO, Fenix T series lights are every bit as good as Surefire lights (led series...possibly not incan M series lights)... and if you buy a Fenix from 4sevens it carries a lifetime warrenty as well.

I do like the smaller size and weight of the E2DL... but I wish SF could have dialed down the scallops a little...but I also understand the secondary function of the light as a striking device.

Bottom line... for a general use light for objects out to 30 yards... I would pick the E2DL....if you want more of a mini thrower light....the TK11.

I honestly believe you will be very happy with either light.

Hello to all at the Forum.
Newbe/Lurker here. I find myself in a similar situation to gsgtsg. I am the proud owner of a PD30 ( with forward clicky and diffuser ) and an EO1. Also looking for my next light to be an E2D L, TK11........ or Jetbeam III M. Yes I know, the easy way is all three. I rarely do things the easy way, character flaw I suppose.
I plan on sticking it in my pocket when walking/bicycling the dog. To guide the way and slow down the occasional charging dog and curious coyote. Also a little camping. The rest of the time nightstand duty.
I am leaning to the Jet III M.

Any thoughts?

I have all 3 of these lights, but my Jet III M is a warm-tint version so that puts it in a special category and I love it. I'll run out in a bit and I'll take all 3 lights for a quick side by side, but For your application, as I interpret your description, I believe the smaller E2DL with it's focused beam would be most suited to your application because the smaller size makes it very easy for pocket carry and the intense focused beam would really deter anything.

Now I believe the the other lights are also bright enough to deter animals at quite a distance, but they are not quite as pocket friendly. That said... outdoors I'm in love with warm/neutral tint LEDs... for that matter I love them indoors too.

They are all good lights so I'm sure you'll be happy with any of them... or all three of them.

One correction I don't have the R2 version of the TK11.

Side by side I'm surprised has how well all these lights work, and that they are more similar than different even though they are quite different lights (especially the E2DL). The biggest bang for the buck seem to be the TK11, it has a lot of light focused into a beam but splits a small amount into the flood, there is a noticeable difference in brightness between the spot and the flood, so they can put most of the energy into throw.

The E2DL though really holds up pretty well in direct comparison. I still think the E2DL is the choice if size is important, the TK11 has a lot of bang for your dollar, and the Jet-IIIm has gorgeous build, one programmable level (or strobe) and the option for a warm tint LED. I use 18650 only in the TK11 or the Jet-IIIm, which I also like.

Anyway like I said, I'm happy with all the lights even if they are somewhat redundant, I've thought about putting the E2DL on B/S/T because I really don't need that one having the others and an E1B, but it's such a well engineered package so far I've decided to hold onto it.
