I already own a black G2 LED which I use as a backup light. I am a LEO. I wanted to purchase another G2 LED to be mounted on an AR15. I have been looking for the "TAN" G2 LED (G2L-TN) for this purpose. Can anyone tell me if the head of the TAN G2 LED is aluminum like the black one? I have seen pictures of the TAN G2 LED but cannot tell if its aluminum. Better yet, does any actually own this light? Can I see some real world pics of it? Thanks.

Only the black one has an aluminum head. The colored g2 heads are nitrolon like the body. Sorry I don't have pics.

I do not own one, but I can confirm that the Black, Tan, OD Green and Yellow G2L's all have aluminum heads. I believe a dealer told me the tan, yellow and OD aluminum heads are powdercoated (except the black model which is Type II Ano).

EDIT- I have to disagree with matt4270, the current G2L (in whatever color) has an Aluminum bezel. The first black ones IIRC had a nitrolon head, but SF switched to a metal head for heat management after launch.

I just saw the video. That answers my question. It sure looks like a tan powder coated metal bezel. BTW, my current black G2 LED also has a black metal bezel. I think I'm gonna have to pick up an OD green one or two as well. I love these lights!

It could be that they now make the heads aluminum in colors, but when I looked at some in a Victorinox store in November of 2009, the heads on the colored ones were nitrolon. I wanted a yellow one and didn't buy it because of this. If they have upgraded across the board to aluminum heads, I would reconsider buying one. I would want to buy it in a store or make sure they had an easy return policy though too make sure you get what your looking for!

The first run of the G2Ls had nitrolon bezels (only the black and yellow were released). When Surefire changed to the aluminum bezels, the black and the yellow were the first to receive them (the yellow being slightly delayed, as Surefire decided what to use on the bezel to match as closely as possible to the yellow body). Surefire went with powder coating, and the yellow G2Ls were re-released. Since then, the tan and green G2Ls have been released with aluminum powder coated bezels.
