Surefire G2 Problem

Hi; My father and I purchased G2 Surefire lights about 7 weeks ago.Mine has been great so far,but my Dad has had a problem.He returned the original light to the store due to the lamp assembly stopped working after two days and about 5 minutes on batteries and they gave a replacement,but the second light stopped working after a week or two.The bulb did not appear to be blown,discolored etc.He called Surefire and to their credit they sent him a replacement lamp assembly which now is his third.I'm not experienced though with Surefire lamp assemblies,so I don't know if they visibly look blown when they go,but anyhow isn't this unusual for two lamps to have this problem? I asked him if he dropped it,layed it face down or kept in pocket while light was on and he said no.I know overheating should not have been an issue.I'm dumbfounded.Has there been any problems,recalls,defects,experiences here with what my Dad has had problems with the G2?Obviously,he is not impressed with Surefire lights,I recommended them due to my experience with a Z2 I used to own.I'm embarassed to say the least,and I'm concerned now about the G2's relibality as an emergency tool.
One last question unrelated to the problem.Is there a part I can buy for the G2 so I can have a tailcap lockout like on some other Nitrolin models??

It's a lamp assembly problem near as I can tell.It has cured the problem,but so far only very temporary.This is a whole other replacement flashlight,so that is when I became concerned that the G2 or the P60 assemblies may have factory defects,and was curious since this is a flashlight forum that others may have heard of any problems.Batteries was the first thing I played with,a few sets.I haven't used the one I bought to much,but so far mine has had no lamp failures.My Dad though hasn't been as fortunate.
 
Surefire is pretty nice when it comes to defective lights. As far as I know there hasn't been any recalls. If it happens again, I would recommend that you call Surefire and tell them what you've been experiencing. Maybe you can send them the G2 and they can check it out as a complete unit. I know it sucks when you recommend a product for someone and have it crap out. Good luck.
 
If your dad doesn't need the brightness of the G2, then maybe you could get him a E2e w a KL1 or just the KL4 outright. I bet he'd be impressed by the brightness and runtime as well! No LAs to blow, and not to mention the size of it compared to the G2...

Otherwise I'd suggest a UKE 2L for a similar emergency light, while not as bright as the G2 but bright enough, and longer runtime...
 
I understand that two lamp assemblies failing could lead to a person's trust on the light to diminish. If you would just listen to my $0.02 worth for a while.

While not as experienced as some old timer Surefire fans here in CPF but I believe I have quite enough incandescent experience with Surefire products. I have an M2 which comes with a P60 and P61 lamp and they are still working well now that I am using it for so long. My G2Z is functioning perfectly too. So is the MN03 on my E2e although it is a replacement bulb (I spoilt the original myself). I have yet to encounter any problems with Surefire incandescent.

I believe your dad's problem to be purely coincidental and you could explain that to him.
 
well,thanks for all the replies.I guess will see how this light works out for my pop.Hopefully,it is just a rare coincidence.
 
burn in the bulb when you just buy the LIGHT, just on it for about 5mins or more.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Tell you what I would do If my dad and I had the same light and he was having problems with his and I none.

I'd trade lights with him. That way I could fiddle with the defective one and see what the problem might be so I could call Surefire.
