surefire g2 vs. streamlight scorpion

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

I have some experience with chane many flashlight. First I considered G2 because the lower price and up a little bit price to Scorpion.
Now I use A2 Because the digital control version. You can get the constance brighness and mutipropose use from 3 LED. The price is incressing very high but it is very worth for use. Now I use A2 and don't try to find another one more. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/broke.gif

Al what could go wrong buy not knowing how to use a tactical flashlight, and how do you use it then? What I like about them is the power. I see Al that your favourite is SureFire M3T, it produces from 125-225 lumen jeeez what do you use it for.

If you expect a flashlight to save your arse when you have not been trained in the various ways to use it to help save your arse then you may find it doesn't help you at all.

You can go on training courses in low-light self-defense and if you carry and/or use a firearm a low-light firearms course it a must I feel.
A flashlight is but one of many options people have and it's likely not appropriate in the majority of situations just like a firearm. Learning how to spot and avoid trouble is perhaps the best training!

I sometimes use the M3T (N2 or MN16 lamps) when I'm out walking. It weighs less than the M6 and is shorter than the M4. It's combination of compactness with power gives me a longer range flashlight I can carry in my jacket pocket when out in the dark.

My use of SureFires is more general utility and fan-boy fun related than Tactical Operator!

And now with protected rechargables available it's even better.

I thought the protected rechargables weren't "ready for prime time yet."

so I guess the way you use it, which is similar to what I intended, a scorpion or a g2 would be ok. I don't use firearms, and neither do you, but you use a have duty tactical flashlight, mybe it is really better to use a uk4aa for walking but like you I wanted something stronger.
What do you think about elektrolumens XM3 I like that it's an AA, they are easier to get. Gerber LX3 seems also good, streamlight luxeon jr. or a luxeon mag 2AA, mybe these lights will do better of course then the UK led 4AA is game also.
Any comments(ireally like the XM3).
If a flashlight is running on AA instead of lithium, 72 lumens is still as bright is that right? But a luxeon led has a shorter beam than a xenon?

lapolicegear.com has a great deal on G2's. $34 + 4 extra batteries (6 total) and free shipping (enter code "freeshipping"). Try one out for about as cheap as they come.

I agree with Hallis. I have a Scorpion as well as a G2 and, for the money, you cant go wrong with the scorpion(spare bulb internally is a nice feature). I do like surefires a lot, but I carried my scorpion for a LONG time and it still holds a special place in my heart as well as my collection.

By the way, the beam characteristics are similar between the G2 and the scorpion when it is adjusted to tight spot. similar brightness, beam quality is a bit less smooth and even than the G2, but very good nonetheless.

I never had problems with the tailcap button of the G2 accidentialy activated. It need a lot of pressure to do that.
The G2 is really a cool light and does in no way look or feel cheap. If You want a 2xCR123 incan, I think it is the best buy.

I own both g2 and scorpion. They are both very good and both have an LED option you can add later if you wanted a long runtime light easily. In it's incadescent form i'd prefer the scorpion because living in canada scorpion bulbs are easily attainable for $6 CDN each. while the G2 will run me $30+ CDN for each replacement module! Right now my G2 is with a unmodded KL3 which seems like a permanent fixture on it cause i love the long runtime and good brightness for camping. The Scorpion is in the car glove compartment, which is great cause of the lithiums are resistant to the hot summers and cold winters here.

so far 0 for all. cause the scorpion is set for glove compartment duty and i use it once in awhile around the car. and the g2 is getting lots of camping usage on the kl3. I don't need bright light camping. a 1 watt is very bright for camping already. so i'm just saving the module for long term in the drawers.

yetiyeti-

After reading what your going to use it for I think there are better flashlights for your uses than either of these.

I would suggest you look at the Streamlight Twintask 2L or the Underwater Kinetics UK eLED. Both of these would better for non-tactical uses.

Oh yeah size 15 i forgot to say that i've owned both lights for around 2 years so far and still ticking. And YetiYeti i suggest you get the G2 because any crazy flasholic should own at least one surefire light in their collection or else they aren't enough of a flasholic. I was soo giddy when i first received in the mail and played with the G2 surefire it's wasn't the same feeling when i got my streamlight scorpion.

LA Police Gear.com www.lapolicegear.com has free shipping on the surefire G2's right now FYI. I just bought 2 of them. I give them away as gifts. People love those things.

I just ordered two G2's. They do have free UPS ground and 4 additional CR123 battery offer for each surefire. One yellow for my wife's car, and the other OD for my car. I hope they do process my order correctly to deduct the shipping charge... It says shipping charge will be deduced when the order is processed. Anyway, overall price is better than current eBay prices.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif LAPoliceGear charged the shipping... I'm waiting for their reply 'cause the web page did mention about the free UPS ground shipping.

Well, I end up paying more than eBay... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
