Surefire identification???

Hi I have just won an auction on ebay for a Surefire light but don't know which model it is.
Can anyone identify it for me please??


The light bezel is black metal and looks like the one on this model

The handle is black rubber and the same as this one.

Hi Swanster,

You bought a SureFire G2 LED or a SureFire G2 with a Z44 bezel and LED drop-in.

Not a lemon at all, great flashlight and perfect for modding with a large number of drop-ins available. I have three with a Malkoff M61LL, it's a great introduction to the world of high end flashlights.

Go to surefire.com and you can read all about it (although the model they sell now is an incan, they discontinued the LED).

That's a G2 with a SureFire KX4 LED conversion head. I used one of these for several years before I converted to the M61LL. Very reliable with a great beam pattern. Makes an excellent single level general purpose flashlight.

Very impressed and the bloke even gave me two brand news batteries with it :)

One thing I wonder is why does it have a button on the end?? It seems only to be there to make the torch flash :confused:

That's Surefire's tactical interface. With their twisty tailcaps, a press on the button turns the light on momentarily, while twisting the tailcap engages constant on.

Was standard. You don
t have the latest version, which was a KX4 head mentioned above. The original G2L was all nitrolon with the P60L LED assembly. There was heat issues with this, so the put a metal Z44 bezel on it to help draw the heat awat from the LED. Then they went to the fixed LED head. So, out of the 3 variations they made, you have the second generation. While bright enough for most day to day taks, the P60L is not bright by modern CPF standards. The output of the P60L was around 70-80 lumens.

Just my opinion, but of the three versions that AOW accurately described above, the second generation is the most desirable. Since it has an aluminum Z44 bezel, you are free to change the P60L drop-in for a newer, much brighter one. This was not possible with the third generation, where the bezel and LED are sealed as one unit (the KX4). Just keep in mind the mentioned heat issues, since the plastic body will not conduct the heat away from the drop-in as well as an all-metal light would. (Of course, it also does not conduct body-heat away from your hand either, making it much more comfortable to carry in the winter!)

Now the fun starts, picking a new drop-in! You have LOTS of options. Just don't go crazy and try to use a bajillion-lumen drop-in. Some websites will note which drop-ins are appropriate for a plastic light, and which are not.

My first Surefire was a G2 Incan. Have fun!
