I have been searching for my first LED light.
I have a surefire E2o with a number of add on items, like e2c, cell tubes for cr123 and AA cell.

I have been looking for a dealer that stocks the newest style KL1 head for my e2o, but can't find any yet.

Now I'm wondering if I should go with a Surefire L1.
Did Surefire just change them from a 1w to a 3w led?
How can I tell once I get the L1 if it's the newest 3w led?

I would like to order the L1 from surefire.com, but see them so much cheaper other places.

Maybe they are cheaper because they are old stock?

Is the L1 worth the money?
Could I tell the difference between a 1w and 3w?

Thanks,

The "newest" style KL1 has not yet been released.

No. All SureFire L1's use the 1W Luxeon (unless they have been modified).

All SureFire L1's use the 1W Luxeon (unless they have been modified in which case you will know that you are buying a modified flashlight).

If the L1 is going to be released at some point in the future with a LuxeonIII it is possible that Dealers do not want to be caught with excessive stock of the 1W version although I have no studied the matter.

Personally, I prefer the L2.

Yes. In general terms, I understand the LuxeonIII is capable of producing a brighter, more intense beam.
