Hi folks I'm new here. I'm from Australia by the way. I just purchased a L1 from eBay. Firstly I would like to modify this L1 by changing it to a reflector instead of NX05. What size of SOX17A will fit? And how do you remove the original optic from the L1 head? I actually tried to open the bezel but it's really hard. I will appreciate anyone experienced in modding their L1. Cheers

hi Ralf, thanks for the link. By the way, did you use the 17mm IMS on your L1? I could manage to open the bezel, but how did you remove the optics? opening the bezel only reveals the metal contact to the LED. Thanks

arwin, what is meant by opening the bezel is removing the bezel ring from the front of the head, not removing the head from the body.

All right I see what you mean. I couldn't open the bezel ring at all. Maybe I will try Ralf's method to use a NP remover in the gap. Thanks for the help

arwin,

I use acetone, which is what nail polish remover used to be made of. It works well, but if you have a shop with a heat gun, protected vice, and a strap wrench, a quicker method is to heat the L1 head with a heat gun. When it gets to about 175 degrees F, the seal will break and you'll be able to remove the ring. If you don't have the above, NP remover is about your best bet. Some just take longer than others for the solvent to work.

Thanks a lot for the help Tony. I read Ralf did put a IMS SO17XA in the L1, do you know where I can grab some of them? Thanks

arwin,

yes I put in the SO17XA, but I did not put any locktide
to the thread, so I can just screw the ring of and change
optics just for fun :-). As chop mentioned I got the
reflector from the Sandwich shoppe, but there are some
group buys as well, where I had got another one ...

I think the NP remove method is the fastest and the easiest
method. It took only five seconds or so. I tried with a
heat gun as well, but hadn't got a strap wrench and it
was to hot for my bare hands to screw the ring down ...

Cheers
Ralf
