I won't be responsible..... BUT I have been using both the BatteryStation's and AW's rechargeable in my L1's (both old and new generations) with nothing but good results.

I have been using JSB's Protected R123, no problem for me!

I've used an Emillion unprotected r123 in mine. No problem for the 3 or 4 cycles other than my Nano charger broke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I don't think that was a problem with the light. I have a new charger on order.

I get I high pitch wine from my light when running it on a R123 any idea's why?

Does it make the noise on both low & high settings? I've heard people mention a noise on low, but I can not hear it on mine.

I am very curious how you were able to insert a blue labeled 750mAH lithium ion R123 from Battery Station, into your original and new style SureFire L1s? My L1 is the original one with the four flat sides and the L1 dumb bezel, not the new one with the KL1 4th generation dumb bezel. The battery diameter is larger than the tube sleeve, and it doesn't fit. Kevin of Battery Station has confirmed this mismatch with many of his R123 batteries. The only thing I can think of is that the new L1 has a larger inner diameter battery sleeve. Is this true? If so, would someone be so kind as to measure the inner diameter of the sleeve, so that Kevin, all the other curious original L1 owners, and myself, can rest in peace? Here are a few measurements from my end......
> Battery Station CR123 outer diameter = 0.645" (16.38mm)
> Battery Station R123 outer diameter = 0.665" (16.89mm)
> original L1 sleeve inner diameter = 0.658"-0.662" (16.71mm-16.81mm)

Let's all get to the bottom of this mystery!

I'll confirm when I get home, but I am pretty sure that I have both types of L1.

I am certain that I have been ruuning them with the blue r123s - both from AW & Battery Station, but to me they look the same size....

I don't have anything like a micrometer or caliper, but I'll try to measure both lights and both battery brands.
