Hello,
I've scoured the internet looking for a rechargeable battery solution for my SF L2 Digital Lumamax.

I've read around and think that the 16340's will fit but are 3.7V. Will this damage the lamp, or just make it uber hot/bright?

I found a kit here: http://www.batteryjunction.com/combo-tl100-2-uf-16340.html

------

I also found this kit with 4 123A sized batteries, but I'm unsure of the brand/quality. Yet these batteries are 3V.

If someone has a suggestion please throw it my way, I'm tired of spending money on batteries for this battery killer. I've been using my SF L7 Rechargeable flashlight cause the life is good, and I don't have to buy new batteries every time they die...

Thanks, Jonny

Yes, the runtime is rather short on high because of the 1100mAH capacity - 30 minutes is High output. Don't know about any other rechargeable options for the L2.

You can get this charger for the 14670.

Here is your order total:

2 x P14670 $20
1 x WF-139 charger $15
Shipping $6.00
Total $41.00

^^ I'll prolly get this and plan to upgrade to an MC-E

I've got the SureFire L2 and it's pretty much the only light I have that doesn't have a decent rechargeable solution, as the body tube is just too narrow for 1x17670, which as you know is going to underdrive it anyway - 3.7v vs the 5.0v from 2xCR123 (2.5v each under load). 1x14670 will be even worse: considerably less capacity, plus running a higher current relative to the cell capacity will result in even more voltage drop and slightly less resultant output. 2xRCR123 (2x3.7=7.4v vs 2x2.5=5.0v for the stock config) will definitely overdrive it as you expect (I can't recall ever reading about someone on CPF who has spent any time using this configuration, so I can't say how long the driver and/or the LED would survive), and capacities of protected 3.7v RCR123's do stink. And "3.0v" rechargeable RCR123's are way worse, read the two LiIon guides by mdocod for more info on why those are a very poor option.

What I consider to be an adequate solution: mod the light to take a lower-voltage 'boost' driver (rather than a 'buck' driver) and bore the body for 1x17670. Or if you were going to go all the way, bore the body completely through for a longer 2x17500, installing a replacement driver in the head, while swapping the somewhat outdated Luxeon for an MC-E. This would be a very nice rechargeable setup. Don't overlook the need to replace the resistor in the tailcap in this situation - the 10 ohms of the stock tailcap will give a good low with 1x17670, but the 'low' from the higher voltage (7.4v) will be much too high IMO on 2x17500.

Or you could just sell/trade this light for a different light that is more rechargeable-friendly, but what fun would that be? ;)

If you are really comitted to this light, try contacting 'Milky' here on CPF. He could do pretty much anything to your L2, turning it into a nearly perfect light for your uses.

Please re-post with what you go with, I would be interested to hear how things turn out.

Good luck,
K
