SureFire LED head connector

I noticed this moon shaped indentation on the LED head connector of my E2DL. And then I got the LX2, opened it up for the first time, and noticed the same indentation on the connector. Anyone else notice these? What is causing this and is there a way to have this prevented? My theory is that the batteries are scratching the head's connector when turning the tailcap. Here's a pic of what I mean. Any input will be appreciated.

Haven't noticed those marks on any of my E series lights. I do change the heads of the E2 and E2DL frequently and never seen those marks either. Did purchase a used E2 Outdoorsman that had a mark similar to that but never knew how it got there.

Hmm that's weird, common sense tells me that it has to be the batteries making this mark since a battery is the only thing that touches it, yet how could a battery leave a mark like that on the much tougher connector.

I've always assumed this was to ensure excellent contact. I'm not aware of anybody reporting that this contact point has ever actually been worn away even though it appears somewhat 'sacrificial'/'perishable'. SureFire's spring contacts scratch into the battery contact terminals. I wonder whether it is 'worn' battery contact discolouring the bezel contact point?

It is not discolored, it is like a circular groove. The SF123A touching the contact point is smooth for the most part, except the two sharp holes on the front of the battery. Could one of those sharp holes, with the twisting motion of the tailcap, cause an identation like that?

I honestly don't think so.

The marks are too exact on both my LX2 and A2L, aswell as your pics!

It must be intentional

That must be what the sharp holes in the battery terminal are intended to do.

The gas vent holes are in the wrong place to cause that mark.
