SureFire Z2 and rechargables?

I'm running a Z2 CombatLight from SureFire with a P61 bulb. (6v it says on the bulb housing)...

I purchased their rechargeable kit for it a few years back, but that thing came with an extension so the light would accept the longer battery.

I'm wanting the thing to return to its "normal" shorter self, but I'm still wanting rechargeables for it.

Can I run some RCR123A 3v 900mAh batteries in this thing?

Would I be better off getting the P60L LED bulb, (I'm not sure of the voltage of this bulb), if I want to run the shorter rechargeables, or should I stick with the incandescent P61?

Thanks in advance for the input. :grin2:

If I don't reply right away, don't be sad.
I'm an OTR truck driver now and won't always have the time or ability to access the Internet...

Won't the P91 bulb be a bit much for the little RCR123 batteries (unless we're talking IMR's here)? Might want to get the P90 bulb, or any number of P60/D26 size drop-ins.

True, the P90 will do fine and the P91 might drain a little too much.
Lumens Factory make all sorts of drop ins for 2x RCR voltages too.

I'd go LED all the way. In fact my next Surefire is a Z2 to go with the G2,C2,6P and 6PD.
Old incan model a friend is willing to sell for a good price, I will drop in a Thrunite XP-G in it.

What sort of drop-in should I get?
I'd really like something 120 lumens or more.

How about rechargeables?

I'm sorry for needing my hand held a bit, I'm just not wanting to waste my money or blow this current light to hell, ya know...

I suppose I'd rather NOT purchase from SF just because they are so darn pricey with their goods...

Thanks again for the info and patience with my late replies.

Two AW IMR16340's and a Surefire P90 lamp assembly is a good setup, and will have a little more runtime than on the RCR123a's.

RCR123a's are not ideal for incan use and should not be used to power a bulb any more powerful than a P90.

You can also run the Surefire P91 with two of the IMR16340 cells, but runtime with that lamp assembly will be under 15 minutes.

Some additional lamps you can run with two of AW's IMR16340 cells are the Lumens Factory HO-9, EO-9, & IMR-9.

MALKOFF M61 and two RCR's will be perfect. Output of 260-300 lumens for 2 hours... a bit less for the lower capacity RCR (vs CR123)

Hmm, the Malkoff M61 should operate at maximum on a single large LiIon, so a single 17670 should get you just as much output but with 50% more runtime compared to 2xRCR123.

I've been running an M60 (OP: the previous generation Malkoff LED drop-in) on a single large LiIon cell and really like it. If you can wait and get your hands on the just-released Malkoff M61 LED drop-in, it really sounds like a winner.

I don't have any 17670's to run the Malkoff on but it looks like I should consider them. In any case the Malkoff M61 has instantly transformed my Surefire C2 into my least carried light into my most carried light.

You might end up taking it out to dinner, bringing it to the shower with you, letting it sleep next to you...

OK, so I'll get the M61 LED (this one, yes?)

And then a 17670 battery. (Is this one good?)

And how about this charger?

The link for the drop-in says something about a lens and a gasket.
Will I need these items or will my "stock" Z2 lens/gasket suffice?

ETA:
While I'm waiting for the M61, would it be OK to go ahead and order the battery and charger for use with my stock incandescent bulb I'm currently using?

You only need the lens and gasket if you are using the M61 in one of Malkoff's own bodies (MD2 or VME). It will be fine in the Z2 as is. Batteryjunction has good stuff and is a good dealer but they are dealing with a very recent fire at their building and may not be able to get you your order in a timely manner at this point in time. Consider Lighthound, Battery Station, or 4sevens if you can't wait.
