"Surface Brightness"

I've only recently seen the term used in CPF. I CPF/Googled it and checked other sources but I'm still not sure what it means. What "surface" does the term refer to; the emitter/filament/arc itself?

It's pretty much lumens/area. So, that of a Rebel would be higher than that of a LuxV, and so on. It mostly relates to focusability.

Yep -- an ideal "point source" would have infinite surface brightness. High surface brightness is therefore directly related to maximum throw. (in this case, arc lamps are usually the highest, followed by filaments, then LEDs)
