I just bought the KL-3 head in "Surefire white". Like my KL-1 it is tinted very blue. I thought the KL-1 was blue because it was one of the first units sold way back when. I also thought that by now SF would have better binned whites.

My real question is can the led be changed easily? Anyone tried this?

For a huge head it is suprisingly handy in a 6P body. The blueish-puple tint is mildly annoying. Guess I's spoiled by my LS's, Blasters, sandwiches, and such.

As noted above, I have a KL-3 not a KL-4. Still has slight blue tint although. I gotta stop mixing gasoline fumes with ammonia and bleach. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twakfl.gif

I find that unusual since many KL4's have been either white or green /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif The LED can be changed without too much work. Several here (including me, Chop and McGizmo) have even swapped the 5W with a 1W Lux for more throw, and LED bias can be changed up or down as well. You can probably do the swap yourself if you have good soldering skills.

My friend's L4 is greenish and I saw one at a shop in Singapore that spots a purplish cast. Not a very strong cast like the KL-1 but I expects SF to be concious in selecting the best bin LEDs since they are charging a premium.

The KL-4 fits on the E2 IIRC. I was looking for a head to fit my 6P. The Dealer had a KL-4 that was good and white and bright. His sales point was to call it a close quarter blinding light, not a reach out and see something light.
