I wanted to get my daughter her first "real" flashlight- I had given her a Minimag a while back to see how she would take care of a light.... so, we sat down together and picked out a light- she wanted the Streamlight Twintask 1L.

It just arrived yesterday, and I was surprised at just how much light that little torch put out in Xenon mode! The 3Led mode was about as bright as any other 3Led lights... very well made- she *loves* it.

I have the 2L, the 3AA and the 3AA luxeon task light as well. I didn't think the 1L was going to be *THAT* good... now I'm wishing I bought one for myself!

I am undecided as to whether I would rather carry the 1L or the 2L when hiking. I think on balance the 1L size makes it more desireable. Then again---.

That series of light is a great one, and if SL would put a tail switch for on/off it would be even better.
I have called SL and suggested such a mod, but it would take a lot of folks to call to make a difference since they are made in China, and it is more difficult to make changes.
The SL CS rep agreed with me, and said so do others who have examined the light.

Give them a call and maybe in time we can get the mod. I do not want to go to the expense to buy a 5/8-28 tap and Kroll switches to do a couple of lights.

I intend to give my daughter and son-in-law a couple.

For the money it`s a honey. Every one who see`s mine loves it...and are not shocked by the price...unlike other lights I own. The ladies find the L1 cute. The entire TT line in great...I agree they would be even nicer if it had a on/off tail switch.

The ST TT-2L would give sightly better light from the xenon and longer runs times over the 1L. If your hiking, your going to probably carry an extra battery or two anyhow. The size may or may not be that big an issue. Hey, I know ........ get one of each. Whichever one you don't take hiking leave in the car or the house.

We really like our 2L's ..... one for each vehicle and one in the house. I gave three of them for Christmas (with extra batteries and xenon bulbs) and people loved them.

Mike,
Since you mentioned carrying extra batteries, someone mentioned that the orange plastic containers used to carry matches are good to carry a couple of 123s. They are water tight, and cheap. I got a couple at WM and they are good for that.

JerryM,

Yep, those orange ones (from the camping supply section) are what I have in each vehicle. I put a little piece of tissue paper in the top to keep them from rattling around.

They work great and are really cheap ..... right around $1.00.

Thanks though,
Mike

Putting a tailcap switch in a multi-mode light is problematic from an engineering perspective. It is easy to have a simple ON/OFF switch, but how do you divert electricity over two separate paths if you only have an aluminum body to work with?

I do not have an L1 or L4, but I understand that it is pressure-driven. The actual "switch" is in the head. And the Arc4 puts the switch in the head too (the tail switch pushes the battery, which pushes the head switch). So providing a tail switch for this type of design is possible, but I would suspect that it would be MUCH more expensive. The head really is the easiest and cheapest place.

Nah- it's easy... make the switch on the head change modes- instead of LED-OFF-XENON-OFF make it LED-XENON-LED-XENON

Use the tailswitch to break the circuit for on-off.

Heck- you can leave the switch in the head the way it is and make the Off / off a "lockout" position.

Hey! I wondered where mine went! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have one of those match holders in my truck. With of course two fresh SF 123A in it.

I echo all that has been said about the Twin Task line. GREAT lights for the money!

I have the tailcaps from a 1L and a 2L at a shop right now getting bored and tapped.

I have a PM off to Wayne asking about Krolls (couldn't find them at the Sandwich Shoppe this AM).

I intend to make good lights just a wee bit better!

It's funny... I don't mind the off-3LED-6LED-Xenon-off switch in my 3C nearly as much as the off-LED-off-Xenon of the 1 & 2L lights. The Kroll will allow leaving them in LED mode at startup, which is enough light at least 75% of the time!

Badbeams, you should get an award for that. Maybe Streamlight could use it in advertising....

You will have to say that a mere $ 20 light that can give more lumens than an Arc LSH-P (Quickbeams site), then switch over to a ten hours run time 3/LEDs IS a honey.

I wish I had a nickel for every comment I've read on this forum, that the Arc LS was ALL they needed.

[/ QUOTE ] I thought that's what the spares carrier was for? Atleast that's what I have in my truck(SC3), with 4 SF cells.

It's funny, so far (note:so far) the only time I have had to use my spare batteries in my truck were for someones camera at a Christmas party. They dared to think I wasn't prepared. Ha! Showed them!
