Greetings all, My first post here. I just purchased a HID headlight assy. for my Harley. It's a new unit that has been setting on the shelf. The markings says Sylvania/ osram. The transformer is the same part # as Corvett and Viper from what I know. The bulb has numbers like osram xearc d1s 35w 66043 dot 4364 06j I would like some more information about this unit. Is there any service/ adjustments that can or needs made to this unit? Thanks Dan

Welcome to CPF, dgriffith.

There is understandable confusion here, lol. What we CPF nutcases mean by headlamps is something you strap to your head, not a headlight for a car or motorcycle.

When you've been here a while, you'll be able to recognise us from the burn/scorch marks on our foreheads, lol.

I'm moving your thread to the automotive section. There are quite a few 2 and 4-wheeled members who hang around there, and I hope they will help you with your question.

The link below is from Osram (Sylvania) for OEM suppliers and has a pretty good overview with a variety of specs for different systems. Even though it's generic it covers the d1s lights and shows the different bases, ballasts, connectors, etc. Hope that helps.

As I understand it the basic maintenance for HID's is pretty much the same for halogens or xenons (never touch the lamps with a bare hand -- can cause premature failure, be careful of the extreme heat -- let the lamp cool for several minutes, etc.). The real difference seems to come in the ballast and connectors of course.

uses D1S modules for bulbs, which are more or less d2s capsules with a built-in ignitor so that the high voltage igniting charge doesn't have to travel from ballast to the bulb. This reduces the risk of a deadly shock.

Osram capsules tend to colorshift to pink after some time. Ever see those Acura 3.2TLs driving around with pink headlights? those are just people who never changed their headlight bulbs.

Chmsam has a very good link in his post, although the actual number on your D1S burner didn't seem to be listed in the text.
