I have recently read a post where the lens of the XO Inova was removed and examined closer.I also read that the water trick of removing the Bezel did not work for the XO.Does anyone know if the water trick will work on the T1 and T3?
I am curious as to how these would perform with some of the better reflectors and if they would be a good choice for a mod host.

All the below written are my humble opinion and thoughts. I'll not be responsible for any errors or actions that may arise from it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The reason why the water trick won't work is that the LED is sitting on a piece of metal that's part of the body. If you look at the picture that I've posted in my thread, look particularly at the one which shows the inside of the Inova XO. Notice the metal there? I suspect that it's not a press fit in metal, but one that's integral with the body. The circuit, thus is fitted in from the bottom, and they some how manage to put the LED in from the front, and do the soldering. Thus the water trick won't work, since it's trying to push against the H shape metal. It will not push the front out. If there's no H shape metal that's part of the body, and the water can flood into the optic compartment at the front, it might crack the glass lens in front instead of pushing the whole black metal piece out. There is a bezel ring that screws onto this black piece of metal. It is also responsible for holding the optic in place. If you look at the pictures of the optic, you'll notice that it has a flat shoulder.

In conclusion, unless the front metal piece is removed from the head, nothing else will come out. It's just not worth modifying... What you will end up with, even if you have a lathe or some other machinery, is a hollow piece of metal tube with flat sides, and a tail cap.

One of the methods that I've thought of in my attempts to mod it is to cut the thing short, make some sort of threading on the front of what's left. So it'll be a 3 piece item. In which if that is the case, I will rather go for a E series body or some other custom mod.

There, I've presented my point of view. If there are any errors, please pardon me. It's written base on imperfect understanding of the Inova XO and armed with only a dremel, I don't really want any more metal particles in my apartment.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Thank you for the well written explanation on this nerd.It is a shame this light is so hard to mod as it is a beautiful host.I am wondering if you can tell me if the T1 and T3 are the same on the inside as the XO?..I now know why the water method will not work with the X0 and am curious if the T1 and T3 will be same.

I'm afraid I don't have a T1 or T3 to "examine" (read: cut open) And I'm not in a financial position to try either. But I'm 90% sure they'll be using the same design to heatsink the LED.
