You should worry about it as much as you do about keeping weight on the springs of your car.

Wouldn't worry about the springs. I have a bunch of 6P/9P (& other lights) and have never had a spring failure. I do unscrew the tail cap on some lights to lock them out for safety/battery preservation reasons, though.
