Hello everyone. I am going to buy a Tec 40 soon but I wanted to know what type of reflector is currently coming with the Tec 40. Is it the smooth one or the textured one?? From what I've read around here, the textured one is preferable?

Thanks!

Jeff

Texture = smooth beam but not so long range
Smooth = Ringy beam but longer range

Depending on where you got it from, if online, you can e-mail them to find out, if offline, meaning you go to the shops, you can look at it personally. I would say most online shops stock the textured one.

Textured on mine - from brightguy.com. Bass Pro shops have them too - textured only.

I think PT completely switched over to textured reflectors as standard. I would only go with the smooth reflector if you have a separate floodlight (such as a headlamp) and use a long throw torch strictly for throw.

In that case, the smooth reflector will grossly outthrow the faceted one. Not just because it's smooth, but because it's also focused narrower. This becomes more obvious when you use a high powered bulb in it, but is not that obvious with the stock bulb.
