I'm looking for a small pocket knife. I've seen mention made of the term "liner" as in a liner lock.

I get the lock part (I think) as in it locks the blade but what is the liner? Is that the face of the handle?

Also, when knives mention that they have a carry clip, is this usually removable or does it just depend on the individual knife?

I'm looking at a Boker Hyper, Black G-10 Scales, Plain and I'm wondering if the clip is removable.

I'm also looking at a
Boker Exskelibur II, Mike Skellern design in case anyone is familiar with that am I'm wondering if the blade locks (I think not in this case).

For the terminology, I'd recommend the glossary at A.G.Russel's site:

http://www.agrussell.com/Knife-Encylopedia/a/119/

Quote:
Liner: Thin sheets of metal between the blade and the handle material of folding knives.

An overview about locking systems can be found here:

It depends on the design, but most clips are removable.

AFAIK, yes. To make this 100% sure you may want to ask Boker:

AFAIK, it's a frame lock.

Thanks for the links and other info.

I ended up going with the Boker Exskelibur II (and it's a liner lock).
