To be honest, I didn't listen to Ted or AC/DC or any of that other stuff. Even now, my husband's Black Sabbath tapes are still forbidden in the house. I've burned them to CD for him to play in his truck... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Now I'm not saying that I don't like ANYTHING that is out today... I love Matchbox 20! And I'll hum along with "I like Big Butts!"... (think Cameron Diaz in Charlie's Angles! LOL!)... but I just can't get into Eminem. The few words that I do make out are offensive to me... aren't they to everyone? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif and I just can't seem to bring myself to feel good about vacuuming while listening to that... ahem... music?!? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Ha. Correct title but...it's not the Outlaws....and no one noticed either /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

It is Poco. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

And it's a good song to vacuum to Sasha /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The song was written by Richie Furay. He was an original member of Buffalo Springfield, then went on to Poco.

About a year ago my 15 year old son "discovered" the Beach Boys.

About six months ago he, along with several of his friends, "discovered" The Beatles.

We have had several hours of enjoyable listening together.

Youth and a marketing technique creates a deliberate and manipulated chasm between us.

I would listen to Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, and Gene Vincent. Then, I would listen to Led Zeplin, Queen, Eric Clapton and Van Halen and think it was awful.

My oldest brother would listen to Bing Crosby and Patti Page, and then thought Elvis, Jerry, Roy and Gene were awful. But we both like Teresa Brewer.

The accidental destruction and rejuvenation of the music recording industry in the early Elvis era has not occurred since, but deliberate manipulation of the psychological discoveries of those events have been skillfully used ever since as a marketing tool. You're not suppose to like what you hear today.

Today the industry is threatened again with destruction. Yesterday they were needed; today they're not. Today, they must create the impression that only they can deliver the identifying difference between today's and yesterday's youth. Look for accelerated change in style, escalating
litigation, and legislation as they attempt to have music added to the list of "controlled substances".

A disturbing question is, if the industry died, and there wasn't a nickle to be made in the trade, would the music stop? The recording industry has reached the point that their survival depends on creating an illusion that they are still needed, litigation, legislation, and the psychological marketing tricks they've learned.

Tonight I'm listening to Dean Evenson. Tomorrow it could well be Conway Twitty, Joe Stampley, Alison Krauss, or maybe even Cris Isaak or Jon Bon Jovi. I'm thinking though, I'll likely be listening to George Winston.

I originally posted this a couple of years ago in regard to the same subject elsewhere. It appears, the trend is even more apparent

Empath... I like ALOT of what I hear today... if I'm listening to some Top 40 station on the radio. But that's because that is all pop music. I like today's pop stuff. But for some reason, the "Hit List" on music TV has the Top 40 from every category... and I'll tell ya what, I'm just not into those other categories. But maybe that's a point in your post too... Back then we had MoTown, Rock and the oldies. Now I can't even pronounce some of the categories that they have... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

A few years ago, David Cassidy did a concert in Laughlin so I bought two tickets. My husband was going to go with me... (now THAT'S a good husband!!! LOL!) but unfortunately, a drunk came into my office as I was trying to leave and started causing trouble with my 70 year old blind employee so I called my husband and 911 and my husband got there first and tackled the drunk... well, actually he ran him into a chainlink fence as he was trying to run away after threatening my 70 year old blind employee... anyway, my husband ended up having to then go to the station and file a report as to why he tackled this guy while he was off duty and ... well you get the picture... he couldn't make it to the concert... (was that planned or what? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif )

So I grabbed my daughter and made her come with me to the concert. She was whining the whole way up there. But then as the concert started and we were sitting there in the balmy 118 degree summer evening, and she started tapping her toe! Uh-huh! I caught her! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif And I called my girlfriend on my cell phone when "I think I love you" came on so she could listen too... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gif ... And then to top off the evening, I got an autographed picture... *swoon*... As long as David Cassidy continues to do concerts, I'll always be a 14 year old girl... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As A red blooded 100% heterosexual, I have to say, David Cassidy looked pretty damn good in his "comeback" a couple of years ago. I wish I had his trainer! Had a very nice confidence about him.

There was a comedian that had a bit called, "The OVERPLAYED HITS OF THE 70's" He did like 3 seconds of many popular 70's songs
