...or at least it leads you to believe that it is.

As long as Force Primary is not 'on' you can triple-click to the 'dim' setting -- power off -- and then when you power on again you will still be in the 'dim' setting.

The side-effect of this is that you can enter the Brightness menu at the 'dim' level.

Once in the Brightness menu you can adjust the brightness as normal and even get the acceptance flash sequence when you're done.

Of course you're not really adjusting the 'dim' level -- you're really adjusting either the Primary or the Secondary level.
This could be confusing as hell if you weren't paying attention to what you were doing.

Whichever setting you were at before you triple-clicked is the setting you're actually adjusting.
If you went straight from Primary to dim then you've just adjusted the Primary.
If you went straight from Secondary to dim then you've just adjusted the Secondary.

I suppose some would say that it's acting exactly as intended but I could see a lot of confusion.

And if the ability to enter the Brightness menu from 'dim' as already in place I wonder how much more memory would be needed to make 'dim' genuinely adjustable?

help!

after reading so many CPF & Arc updates to find out how my Arc4+ is suppose to operate, i'm now totally confused.

peter's advanced instructions has changed so many times but i finally thought i had it figured out that "boost" no longer existed, that we had a fixed (non-adjustable) level 1 and that the dim (level 16) wasn't adjustable at all. i was under the impression that only the middle level (factory default set at level 7) was adjustable.

now GJW finds that the low level is adjustable.

where can i go to find out how my Arc4+ actually operates???

coyote, you can try my flash sim or George's Javascript simulator... (See my sig for the links)

They walk you through the menu process with instructions along the way... As far as I know these sims are damn near acurate.
(They even adjust to your click speed like the real thing.)

Coyote, GJW's post says that you can enter the brightness adjustment menu in triple-click-dim mode, so it appears that you're adjusting the triple click dim level, but you're really adjusting one of the other levels.

All you do is reset the primary in the brightness menu to a lower setting, say 4. Then, when the light is on any of the three brightness settings, you can press the tail switch and hold in for boost (Level 1).

Or, you can make secondary brighter than primary by changing them both in the brightness menu, say Primary Level 10 and Secondary Level 4. Then go to the options menu and select the third option, Force Primary. That way, when you turn the light on it will always go to primary, Level 10 in this case. From there you double click to Lev4 or triple click to Lev16. So primary doesn't always have to be the brightest, constant on level.

thanks guys.
that helps.
i'll spend some time fooling with it and maybe finally figure it all out.
