The best light for a neurologist?

What a site! I'm looking for the brightest and smallest light to be used in transillumination of childrens' heads in a manner analogous to the old and hefty "chun gun." From contact with a member of this site, it sounds like the surefire E2 may a great idea. However, surefire does not expressely mention on their site that the p61 bulb is compatable with the E2. Is it, and if not, would the D2 defender be the best option? Any other thoughts? Perhaps I'm missing out on an even better product? Battey life and cost are of minimal importance as I'll only be using this for at most 5 minutes/week. Thank you for your time.

Hi and welcome. No the E2 cant use the P60 or P61 lamps. It is smaller so it uses it's own lamp, MN03. You would need the D2, M2, G2, or 6P to use the other lamps. I have never tried transillumination (putting the light in the mouth and lighting up the sinuses) on kids, but my wife (ER RN) mentioned it so I tried it with some of the light I have. The E2 works on adults so I would imagine it would work on children. The light does get pretty warm if left on for a while.

Hello!

I might suggest a G2 nitrolon for a few reasons. One, it takes the high output lamp, so it is brighter than the E2. You have to buy that separately.
Two, if you are doing cranial transillumination, it has to go up against the skin and it has a thick plastic rim which is more comfortable than the metal rim of all the others.
I dont think any of them will work well for sinus transillumination since the beam is so wide. The old standard Welch-Allyn transilluminator is probably best for this.

Thanks for the input! At the moment I'm caught between the D2 and G2. The D2, although more expensive, has a bit more options which would allow me to use it in other aspects of my life. But then again, the G2 is lighter and softer. My plan is to get a D2 and create a rubber lip in my lab. If I don't like it, I'll grab the G2 for myself and give one of my family members a nice present. Thanks again!
