It's already known-to-be-possible to use monkey brains to do new things. Like controlling extra robotic limbs as seen here. Given the inevitable obsession with wireless, gesture-based, hands-free interfaces, I see this as the next step. If brains really can map new output-and-input neurons, there's not much reason not to have a low-power transmit/receive box in your brain*. This would let you control devices like a flashlight, along with getting information about the light, its battery status, etc.

*Actually implanting things in the human body safely, consistently, and reliably is hard. There's this one person who puts hot-glue-covered magnets in her body to 'sense' ferrous metals, but she's had some gnarly infections. There's a whole engineering science behind biocompatibility. And let's not get into bugs in the hardware!

She probably only gets the infections because of improper sanitary conditions when surgically placing the magnets. Provided you do the surgery in a clean, sanitary manner, using only materials that are hypoallergenic, like maybe surrounding the magnets in a thin layer of Niobium, if it wouldnt reduce the magnets effect, then a person should be Ok.
