Best to ask this question here for members of both sites.

What is the difference between the knifeforums and bladeforums board. I like to keep my online visits to a minimum and somehow I have gravitated to the bladeforums because of the user interface. What am I missing by not visiting the knifeforums?

TIA.

Well, there's a soap-opera like backs tory between the two.

It all started with a WWW page called: "www.recdotknives.com.(a play on Usenet's rec.knives)" This morphed into (after another intriguing story) into bladeforums. Some folks from bladeforums then started knifeforums. Due to some controversy at bladeforums, tacticalforums and USN both started. I like USN, good folks there, I'm not too crazy about TF.

I goto bladeforums a bit more than knifeforums, not sure why, probably habit. BF seems to haev more traffic, and the software is easier on the eyes (for me).

dano: you got it kinda backwards in one place. www.recdotknives.com was first, started up by Josh. Josh self-destructed, and Earl started knifeforums.com. Earl pissed off Turber and Spark, who then started bladeforums, which became (and still is) the biggest and busiest knife forum on the web. Earl then self-destructed and sold knifeforums.com to James, who is a very nice guy and who brought knifeforums back from the brink. Dissatisfaction with bladeforums on the part of Mad Dog and the usual suspects, respectively, led to the creation of Tactical Forums and USN, respectively.

To me, there's no question at all, if you're going to check one site, it should be bladeforums. However, I don't see how you can possibly keep to just one site, and the fact is, all the other sites have different personalities, and it is very much worth going to all of them.

Appreciate the little history behind the different fora. I guess if you can elaborate on the personalities for each of them then I will have a better perspective. We can safely keep it between the knifeforums, bladeforums and the usn.

TIA.

Dano and Joe,
Thanks for the information. I've been a member of BF since '99, and KF shortly after that, along with being a mostly-lurking member of USN. I never knew the real history behind the split. I'm often surprised at the (infrequent) hostility between forums that contain many of the same people even as moderators. Anyway, there are a lot of good folks in all the forums with a lot of good information. There is also quite a bit of crossover with CPF I would imagine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I go back all the way to recdotknives.com and I saw all those arguements. It was so repulsive that I stayed off all knife forums for a long time. There have been many starts and stops and forums that have gone by the wayside as well. Bladeforums seems to have come out the largest and has the most info on it.

Same thing has happened in other forums about other things. Some forums, like one about plastic handguns from Austria, has turned into nothing but a ***** and moan forum. AR15.com restructured because things got so bad over there. Hard to find a large, civil place anymore, CPF is still the best when it comes to info and civility.

the knife forums were the worse i've ever come across. the gun forums are next, i rarely post on either.
