After looking at many reviews and threads on the HDS lights, I am thinking of adding one to the collection. For EDC should I go with the tactical or exectutive model? Looking at the 170 and 200 lumen models. Is there enough difference in brightness to justify the extra cash? Thanks for any help.

The differences are:

1) bezel color - executives have a silver bezel and the tacticals are black.
2) factory programming - tacticals are programed with a strobe function from the factory, executives are not. Both models can be re-programmed to be identical.
3) button type - executives have a flush button allowing them to tail stand while tacticals have a raised button for easier activation.

If you want a combination of any of these, like I did, you can order a light directly from HDS how you want it.

As for the 170 vs 200...that's probably the toughest decision. If money isn't a deciding factor, the 200 is probably the best way to go, IMO. I own a 200 but not the 170. IIRC, the 170 slightly outthrows the 200 because of the different emitter and tighter hotspot. With that being said, the 200 does very well.

Bottom line, you can't go wrong with either light. And if you find you don't like the button type or bezel color, they can be ordered separately and changed down the road. I ordered both buttons with mine so I could try each one and have a spare.

I own a rotary & a 170T,the rotary has a more floody beam than the 170T.It still throws far enough for me anyways. The 170 has a tighter hotspot & it throws a little bit farther
than the rotary.I love the clicky UI on the 170T & i really love the tighter beam for certain jobs & activities. The rotary is a fantastic light & the UI is brilliant, being able to turn
your rotary on at any level from about 0.3 lumen to 200 lumen is worth the extra money in my opinion. What i will say is you wouldn't be disappointed with the 170T either i
love both of them & I've actually got my 170T in my pocket now.Basically you can't go wrong with either light in my opinion.merry Christmas.

Just got the rotary a few days ago from Henry, I am really pleased with it. the rotary function is really nice. Programming is kind of hard at first but that is indifferent I guess. I dont really know what it is but HDS but it has some intrinsic value to it. Highly recommended!

You can't go wrong with an HDS product. I own several including the rotary. 100% reliable. Great flashlights.

+1 I own a rotary and a 200T. Both are my most favorite lights. Get one. Be impressed. Fall in love with flashlights all over again. :naughty:

Ya just get a rotary. I don't really think there is a better flashlight. I can't think of a better way to have a lighting device.

If the throw is better on the 170, I may go with that. If I can find one in stock. Everybody seems to be out at the moment.

Have you inquired with HDS Systems website if they have them in stock? I would order direct since prices are the same around the Internet. Looking to get me some myself and the EDC Rotary 200 lumens flashlight (EDC-R1B-200) looks like what I am looking for to replace my long lost Surefire Backup. I will inquire if they have it in stock first before I fork over the cash unless the wait isn't too long.
