Shelton, 22, who recovered from his injuries and continued serving with the 173rd Airborne in Iraq until last month, discovered that his bank account had been drained when he returned to his base in Italy, Susan Locke said.
"His account was wiped out," Locke said. "It's horrible. I can't even imagine. I can't believe someone would do something like that."
Shelton suspects the money was stolen by a fellow soldier. While he was serving in Kirkuk, Iraq, he allowed the man to stay in his apartment in Italy, where Shelton believes the solider swiped his Social Security number and account information."
