threading issues.

hey guys,
I bought a "UltraFire C8 CREE LED Tactical Flashlight" and it just arrived today. I've had it for only 12 hrs and i've already broken it, need a solution. basically the threading between the head of the torch, and the handle will not screw together, it's like the thread is too small (it goes all the way in, but continues to rotate). I've only pulled it apart a few times, so i dont think i've ruined the thread, but i think it might have to do with the fact i wiped the "black crap" off the thread when i unscrewed it. I gather this would be some kind of dirty grease? I even tried using plumbers tape, but it won't work, so i'm not 100% sure replacing the grease would.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hmmm ... you say the threads are still OK? I'm not sure if this would work, but you might try wrapping the male part with plumber's teflon tape to get it thick enough so that it makes a tight connection with the female part.

After many hours i've found a solution, i figured i'd post it so it can be indexed by google.

This probably will only work if you're not continually unscrewing the torch. In this case it has a (separate) rear screw for getting the battery out.

Basically i had some copper electrical wire. I stripped the plastic, and separated the stands. Then i folded them (in half) over the screw thread (with the other half inside). As i twisted it on, all the strands twisted and helped lock up the threads. If i was to do it again, i'd probably epoxy it, but it seems very tight. I also used tweezers to push any strands on the inside to the side, so they dont short out the torch

The teflon tape idea failed, mainly because it doesn't conduct electricity, but thanks for your help.

If you bought a budget light in a bricks and mortar store you could simply have returned it for a refund or replacement.

I think I'd return it anyway, since it appears the barrel wasn't properly dimensioned. Most online sellers have good return policies.

I am very sure you could and then you would not be writing this post with your lamp in a sorry state.My B+M light is working just fine and cost me what a UK flim (£5 to you)

I had a light where you could turn the body around and screw the tailcap on the head end, but the head would not screw on the tail end. This is an easy mistake that can be quickly checked, but is not immediately apparent sometimes. Can't hurt to check ;-)

Nah would take the fun out of reading all the dead on arrival posts,it is like buying bread in your local store,get it home and sit there for an hour fixing the slices back together so you can spread butter on it,how silly is that.:eek:

I would like to be able to go to a store and buy what I want, but alas it is not to be. Unless I am in search of light that wont make it the drive home. Its kind of unrealistic to think that everyone has a flashlight superstore in their neighborhood. On occasion I do see some decent brands at local gunshows, but they are always 50% higher than what I can order them on the web for. Cut the OP some slack.
