1. Can i use a BB400 with a Mag 2C instead of 2AA? Would i have to do any drilling/modification to the Mag to make it fit? (I don't quite know how the sandwich fits into a torch)

2. The BB400/Q2 is a low-dome (Batwing) right? Which modules are high-dome (Lambertian)?

3. How much runtime can i expect with BB400 with 2C and with 1xCR123? I've read the runtime thread, but i don't know how to extrapolate the runtime from C's with the data in that thread.

Thanks
Mark

1. Yes you can And yes, you have to make some mod to the mag, like using heatsink to attach the led (400 mA makes the led pretty hot) and you have to do some wiring. My suggestion is to get one of those Hotlips heatsink so you can just epoxy the board at the bottom of the sink.
2. I think so. The MM + R2H is HD, but it is only available on special occasion
3. with 1 123, you can expect at least 1 hr of runtime, while on the 2C, depending on the type of battery you are using, you will get at least 3 hrs.

Mark, if you're going for runtime, slap it on a 2D and it will run for about 20 hours or more straight--I have a BB 500 on a 2D with a Q3--with the big reflector the center spot is 5W league and lasts forever ...

bit chunky though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks for the info!

shiftd and hideo, Do you know of any tutorials on how to attach a heatsink to the board so i can run it with a Mag?

I want to have it both ways - use the Mag with a KPR112 and 3x123 when i want brightness, and with the sandwich and 2xC when i want cheap runtime.

Umm, that is rather hard to do, Mark.
Basically, the Hotlips heatsinks are designed to permanently attach the sink to the mag, but if you could somehow confince rothrandir to make you custom one so that you could use the heatsink and the lux for runtime or remove the heatsink and use the KPR when you want the brightness.

To get the sammich to work with the big reflector, you would have to cut the cam stalk off. This would make your light non-adjustable, and non-focused if you didn't alter the PR spring-loaded connection thing. But for ideas on how to make a removable heatsink, you might want to look at the www.inretech.net modules. However, if you want to preserve the focusing function and get some more runtime, you might want to look into an www.everled.com .
