Looking for help... Can I get a custom made reflector like the dual VEC192 reflector that can take the abuse of two HID bulbs?. All cheap reflectors go foggy.

And some kind of very lite metal housing to attach to a 3D mag body that holds the reflector.

can I extend the high voltage HID wiring? as its not long enough.

What kind of fans to use on heat sinks do you recommend? pc case ones drop the voltage too much on 14v battery.

Please suggetsions?

Try looking on ebay for the vector vec192,you might get lucky and find one. As far as mounting something like that on a maglight body,that would have to be special made if doable at all.
 
Vec192 head on a mag would be very cumbersome and awkward to handle, better of with a top handle (such as comes with it) or a pistol grip. Yes the 192 can handle the heat of two (2) 100w hid bulbs, I'm not sure about its baby brother but as long as you have a metal reflector and tempered glass lens, you should be ok.
(Fyi, hid's are typically cooler running than their halogen counterparts)
 
Does anyone know if this VEC158 light's twin reflector's are as deep as the VEC192?

More a throw question.

Throw is determined by the apparent reflector area. The "radius" of one 192 reflector is roughly 6cm while the 158 is about 4cm. The 158 looks a bit more asymmetrical but still might work as well as the 192 with HID. With its radius it would have a little less than half the CP throw of the 192.

The depth (in connection with focus length) in turn mainly determines the beam profile. I believe you can not predict but only try with such a medium quality reflector.

However, another important issue: The absolute reflector depth is certainly smaller than in the 192, and the HID bulb might not fit under the glass. I haven't tried, yet.

Hmm I doubt it, I felt the weight of the large reflectors & mag host, its lite as anything. The reflector housing would need to be alliminium or something. There is a light from way back called the sleeper which i belive is similar.
Isnt it proved wrong hids run cooler? I mean a per lumen yes. But even a 55w hid kit produces a hell of alot of heat that gets the refelctor dam hot. Probably hotter then the incan 100w from my tests.

thanks for the info. i suspect this reflector would be good for mid range only. not worth it.





This is pretty depressing hobby tbh, most stuff just stops at 50watts after all these years. The tech exists to go far beyond. I think the hobby is a lost cause. I search these forums I find not much about high powered monsters.

These 75-100w hid kits are a joke. the bulbs would last no time. And the kits are still only what 80-85% power going to bulb?
simply put if i cant build a 400w hid monster, it all aint worth my time.

Both per lumen/watt and just in general, find yourself a halogen that can compete with a 75w hid, tail stand them both and let 'em run for 5 minutes, then put your palms on the lenses, see how long you can holds them there before the halogen has blistered your skin and take note of how comfy the other hand feels.
 
5mins isnt enough & the halogen will be hotter in that short time. I tied 40mins in 5" relector & both 55watt HID & halogen are too hot to touch lens & reflector. any temp diff isnt worth mentioning.

But. in larger host & reflector
A 35hid in a 9" reflector is much cooler then a 130W Halogen (both fair comparison in lumens) probably as the host is larger & heat dissapates better.

Bottom line from my playing around with lights. HIDs dont run cool, the lens & reflectors get too hot in small lights. The ballast gets too warm, & you need heatsinking with fans. Unless your fine withthe ballast probably dieing quickly.

Also Im no expert, but not sure about uv playing a role in cheap reflectors with no coatings
