I've been spending alot of money lately on flashlights (Actually that's a understatement if you include the $575 for the winning bid on the McLux auction!)

What I've been doing is assembling a collection of flashlights and lanterns as a Housewarming gift for my brother and his new bride.

The latest received today were a couple Streamlight Twin-Task 2L lights. This is the light that has three 5mm leds AND an incandescent lamp and runs on two 123's.

First to get my only complaint out of the way...the focusing sucks, it's worthless, a marketing dept sham started by MagLight. OK I feel better now.

This light rocks! For the $30 bucks I paid it is one heck of light.
ALL of my SureFires will kick it's butt, but they darn well better considering the price difference!

This light is a decent size and well made. If you just can't stand the tailcap switches, which I know some have complained about, this one is for you.

The three LED's are very decent and produce a broad soft beam, a little too bluish, but no worse than others. I tried focusing the incandescent main lamp. It only looks decent at it's tightest, so that's where it stays. The hot spot on the incandescent beam is not as tight as my E2e's which surprised me.

I bought a Twin-Task 3C earlier last month. The 3C has three modes 3 LEDs, 6 LEDs, Incandescent. Comparing the three LEDs modes on both, the 3C wins out, it is noticeably brighter. The incandescent mode appears to be about the same, but it is hard to compare since the 3C can be focused tighter and has a smaller hot spot.

So which do I like better? The 2L model is is just right for the hand or coat pocket, it's my pick.

Does this mean i'll give up my E2e or my E1e/KL1 not likely, they are supurb flashlights top notch in every way. But I have to admit for the non-flashaholic these two lights really get my vote. I would recommend them in a heartbeat!

B-T-W for those that are curious, the other lights I gave to my brother are, Two-GE folding Fluorescent Lanterns, Two-ARC AAA's for keychains, an ARC-LSL-P Seconds that is very nice, one-SL TT-3C, one-SL TT-2L, and a Garrity AA G-Tech for their little boy. Batteries-24 D-cells, 12 C-cells and 10 123's.

I'd say they are set for a while.

Good on ya!

Do you need another relative? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/poke2.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/broke.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

[/ QUOTE ] My 1L kicked the snot out of my E1e/KL1. I sold the E1e immediately after getting my 1L. The SL was only $20 and would switch from led to xenon with a switch. With SF you have to swap bezels. In xenon mode the sl outproduced the E1e easily.

SL's threads, O-rings and fit/finish is superior to SF IMO.

I'll echo the motion that the SL TT2L is very good. But I'm used to my E2e/KL1, and it sometimes annoys me to have to rotate the TT to find the switch, ala M*glite. Then, I never know what mode will come on, 50-50 chance. But the incandescent beam is very nice and smooth, it's well made although much larger than an E2e, and priced right. If I had a say, I'd fix the focusing ability, slim it down a bit, add a space for a spare lamp, and make a switch that allows selecting lamp mode, such as 2 buttons or a rocker under the rubber. Maybe a glass lens, too. Anyone know how to remove the lens?

the TT1L 2L & 3C have got to be some of the best buys available my only complaint is having to cycle the switch to select the light source, some of the mod guys drill and tap the tail cap for the kroll switch simple fix. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

So, the custom McLux became a WEDDING GIFT!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

The SL 2L is my favorite- Great light.... I also have the 3AA- a bit long, but also very nice. I have yet to buy a Streamlight that I was unimpressed with.

Stainless-

No the Custom McLux did not become a wedding gift. I received it today it looks very very nice. But I have to be honest, almost too nice, too pretty. There is a chance, slight, but still that It might go up for sale the closer it gets to Christmas. Who knows, I still have to send Don his portion of the Auction proceeds tonight when I get home.

I sure would like to see a picture of a Custom McLux. I have never heard of one. What makes it worth $575.00?

GregR, those are some nice lights you gave your brother. I am up for adoption if you want another brother. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

James-

The auction was right here in CPF. Go to the the "Modders B/S/T" area and scroll down the the topic "McLux Auction *SOLD*"

The first post is Don's beautiful light, I picked it up this morning! It has the best, most beautiful, even beam I've ever seen!

I would have to agree that the SL TT 2L is an awesome light. I find the build quality is impeccable, and the output is very impressive. I would feel that this light was a bargain at $50, but when you consider the average price for one is only $30, that's an amazing deal. Perhaps my favorite thing about the 2L is the size. It's perfect for a jacket pocket, or carrying in the hand for walks and such.
