Ya know that little pocket watch pocket on every pair of bluejeans? Well, I always wanted a pocket watch for it, but never liked the pocket watches that I found.

A few years ago, I found this Timex wristwatch which was perfect. It's a Timex Expedition, but I'm not sure of the specific model name anymore. I want to say that it was called a "twist & set" or "twist and pull". Ok, maybe not "twist and pull", that sounds a bit sexual...

Anyhow, the unique thing about it is that it's analog, but has a dial on the front that you twist to set the alarm time, then you pull out one of the knobs either part way or full way depending on if you want the alarm to go off within the hour or within the next 12 hours. Also, it has indeglo, which can be enough light to see things in your tent at night. It also shows the month's day. I was tired of digital watches and this analog did everything I needed from a digital perspective. Now I just had to make it a pocket watch...

First, I found a very cheap "made in china" watch that had a clip I could steel. I then carefully filed off the top two posts on the Timex that were meant for the wrist band. I attached the stolen china clip to the bottom posts, and that's it...

Now the watch clips nicely on to my beltloop and is just long enough to reach the tiny pocket watch pocket on my bluejeans.

Just what I wanted, and I still use it to this day.

Cool! I always thought that 5th pocket was for change. I keep a quarter in mine, LOL.

Ive seen a few flip down holders from catalogs that allows you to mount a regular watch without the band as a pocket watch. I think duluth trading post is one.

Things I've put in the 5th pocket:
Zippo lighter (both regular, and slim style)
Cell phone (yes mine fits!)
Dorcy 1AAA
Flash Drive (sandisk cruzer mini)
Mini TV universal remote (emillion & dae sell this)
Probably some other stuff too...

But never a watch..

Have you tried to polish up where you ground off the tabs?

I used to carry a flash drive (cruzer mini or titanium, depending on which I needed for that day) in that little 5th pocket, but now I carry my SF G2 and a spare pair of 123As.

Interesting use of the 5th pocket. Maybe a good topic for a new thread?

I never bothered to try and polish up the tab areas. It's smooth enough that it doesn't catch on cloth, so I never bothered.

carrot: will the g2 fit in the pocket, or do you mean the spare 123a?
bruner: Polishing it up would be for mere cosmetics only. :)

FWIW Timex now makes an indiglo pocket watch for just that same purpose. It is anolog as well.
