TK-50 on it's way?

Maybe they forgot to delete the link? (Try to search for the article number in their shop, you won't find the product entry)
I found someone mentioning the TK50 here:
http://www.messerforum.net/showthread.php?t=78140
In post #9, Mr. Auler says that this light won't be released in near time.
I found another forum where someone said that it might use 3x 18650s, but that thread is much older.

Let's not put the cart in front of the horse. Fenix hasn't even released the TK-45 yet.

@Locoboy5150

The fact that they haven't released the TK45 yet doesn't mean they're not working on another flashlight(release) at the same time. Besides that the Fenix modelnumbers are not chronologically, the TK30 was released after the TK40.
Furthermore, with the recent releases of many new competitor flashlights equipped with Luminus leds I would think Fenix doesn't want to stay behind too long with their outdated MC-E led (in terms of beamprofile).
And on top of all that, why does the site state:

"ANNOUNCEMENT, AVAILABLE SOON" ???

Still, I bet it would be more like a TK30 than a TK40. I doubt they'll make another 8 X AA flashlight. Too many returns.

To be honest in most of the SST-50 flashlights available now the MC-E version is just as good as the SST-50 version IMO. The only real thrower I've seen is the Catapult. I'm not going to re-purchase every MC-E I have because of a little dark spot that's only visible on a wall.

Now if the TK50 out throws Catapult I might be interested.

@geek1: well, admittedly you can find this link when you search for it by Google. But on the retailer's site I tried to search for it manually. No results.
Whatever...I don't know anything more than I said - we'll see what happens.

Ohh...

The TK40 is high on my short list.

Could you explain this further please?

—Thanks, Jack. :ooo:

I believe he's just quoting what 4Sevens said here http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showpost.php?p=2316468&postcount=23.

Please keep in mind two things, that TK40 is highly recommended to run on NiMH, and there are zero reported issues when run on that battery type. Second, if you have wrong polarity or mismatched cells on a li-ion light, your problems will be much bigger than leaky alkalines:poof:.

Finally, keep in mind that even though he sells their lights, 4Sevens is in direct competition with Fenix on many types of lights. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that he's going to give better press on his own lights than those of the competition.

Thanks for the link...

I can certainly see a lot of... ah... shall we say.. bias from 4Sevens in that posting!

I didn't realise that he (the poster) was actually the manufacturer of his own brand. And of course he's gonna can the opposition.

I'm surprised that the CPF admin allow one manufacturer to disrespect a competitor's products on these forums. It can make it very difficult for a flashlight newbie like me.

And it's certainly NOT a good look for 4Sevens!

BTW, are there any other "anonymous" manufacturers posting on CPF that I should be wary of?

Cheers again, Jack. :)

As pointed out, it's a pretty well known fact that 4Sevens was the one who more or less introduced Fenix(fenix-store) and then also made his own brand. The 4Sevens in the brand name is kind of a give away.:)

Can't agree with you though that he's slagging the light. He's more pointing out that the nature of using multiple AA's like that don't work with in a large scale since there will be too many user errors(and you can't make a single AA MC-E). He's not blaming the light really, more the concept.
In this thread on the other hand. :)

Well, whatever the "4Sevens Story" is, it almost put me off even considering the TK40, whereas now it's one of the 4 on my shortlist!

It's interesting — and somewhat disturbing — that this nonsensical, negative and unsubstantiated "rumour" about utilising AAs in torches that's been started by whatever "entity" [sic] that posts here as 4Sevens has even been picked up on a UK forum; and I quote verbatim:
Please excuse my ignorance but isn't there supposed to be a problem with this set up using [6] AA batteries. I remember something on the 4 sevens website about it frying torches.
And whether or not 4Sevens is slagging the batteries or the light itself is ultimately immaterial. He's effectively telling people it's a dog.

And I notice (thanks to your CPF link Lobo) that this 4Sevens guy also slags NiteCore as well, in that he claims they have "abysmal reliability" and also that he has to "send loads of them back to the manufacturer and most of them come back still defective".

Are there any brands other than 4Sevens this guy doesn't can LOL?

— Jack.

Jack keep in mind that how they get information about products is very different than we do. We get lots of first hand user information, but they get information in a reverse fashion (from sales statistics and returns). It's more likely that their information is more accurate since it can probably be organized MUCH more easily.

Once again, I must highly disagree with you. First of all, 4Sevens is one of the most respected members of this site. The service of fenix-store(and now 4Sevens) is kind of legendary on this site, so his word has some weight to it even if he has his own brand.
And second:
"1) reverse charging and leaking from unbalanced cells
2) people putting cells backwards and cells rupturing and leaking from the light being OFF. yeah, they turn as hot as grenades when you have lithium aa's put in them backwards"
Where does he slag the light there? He just saying that with so many cells, the frequency of user errors gets so much higher, that it's not worth for the producer to make such a light. If you know which way to put in the batteries and how to balance the cells(checking the voltage on them), then you should be ok. But there are too many idiots(regular user) who can't handle that, and Fenix is generally going for mass market nowadays.
And it's kind of funny that you are saying that 4Sevens is somehow anti AA, since Fenix basically created the market (like Surefire created the CR123 light market) for single AA and dual AA high powered led lights. If it weren't for them, AA-lights might not even have been an option for bright CR123lights. And 4Sevens was the guy who brought Fenix to CPF...

4Sevens makes great lights, Fenix makes great lights, 'nough said. Back on topic please.
Send the dealer an email today, still waiting for a reply. Will keep you all informed.

If there were manufacturers who were coming here pretending to be someone else, that would likely be illegal in the form of shilling.

Manufacturers may be lurking though. I've been posting and actively participating in other message boards and newsgroups on an extremely wide variety of topics that I'm into and the one single thing that they all have in common is that company manufacturers, designers, and even presidents lurk in them all. I've experienced it first hand when company presidents came up to me personally and mentioned that they lurked in those newsgroups and message boards and said that they had read my posts. I even saw photographs of printouts of my posts stuck on a few general managers' office walls before.

I'm not saying that that is the case with CPF but I am saying that, based on my prior experiences, if high profile flashlight manufacturers are lurking here it would not surprise me at all.

Yes I was quoting 4sevens. Even if the reason for the returns is folks putting the batteries in backwards (Not Fenix fault) if they get lots of returns I don't see why they wouldn't switch to CR123 or 18650.

BTW, the TK40 is my favorite large flashlight and I've never had any problems with mine. I'd recommend it to anyone.
