Oh, what happened?

The worst that's happened to any of my flashlight is falling head-first onto my weights.
Luck it was only my Regal EDC (cheap from DX), but i still loved it and the lens cracked.. =(

and thats mild compared to what you did to your T1

Of course, if the guy works in an office and want a light to EDC or have a drawer just in case of a blackout, the TK20 is a no no.

I keep mine in my desk drawer at work. :tinfoil: It's big enough to find in the dark and has a high-viz yellow grip. It's perfect for blackout duty.

Under any "normal" useage, I can't see how anyone would apply THAT much force solely onto a flashlight.
You'll have to get a car to sit on top of it with a single wheel to apply that much force on the flashlight. The video proves nothing much other than the light's sturdiness is beyond ANYONE's needs.

And again, I still stand by "I don't see what's the practical advantage of TK20's added toughness have over, say a L2D."

Yes, the TK20 is bulky compared to an L2D or PD30, but when it comes to shining light it can't be compared with EDC sized lights especially for throw. I still carry it for camping to go hiking at night, even though most of the time I'll use something milder (quark neutral) to keep my night vision alive. I can't talk about drop tests since I've been lucky enough so far not to drop any of my lights except the TK40, who barely has a scratch, but it is strongly built, no doubt about that.

I did some comparisons last weekend with a Quark AA2 neutral and an L2d cool and these don't come even close in throw or brightness... yep, lumen is a relative factor... My TK11R2 was indisputably brighter with a little more throw and even then, I prefer the TK20 for color rendition.
Mind you that you're asking this question in a place where guys like me who carry both a TK20 and TK11 on top of 2 quarks and a head lamp just for fun will answer...

Well, under my "normal usage" of the TK20, I still stand by my statement in post 13. There is no other light in production which could match my needs.

Not to belittle the L2D in any way, but I've done things to my TK20 that would have bent the L2D in half...

There is no "story", just how I use it. It has been used to break falls, assist for use in handholds, as a counterweight on the end of a tossed handline, rope anchor, speed brake, etc.

Those "uses" are seperate from normal duty as a flashlight, which includes constant exposure to, and often complete immersion in, mud, water, and sand, falls and scrapes against rocks, etc.

Theres something about holding a big thick chuck of aluminum that pushes out 150lm of warm light that is re-assuring when your alone in the dark somehow...

You forget wet, cold, tired, and a mile back a dark hole in the ground with 500ft of rock above your head.

Best build quality of the bunch (not counting the slipping rubber grip, which is easily fixed).

I've had my TK20 for about 6 months.

+The neutral white led is amazing at outdoors, my brother has the Fenix TK11 R2 and it's brighter of course but the R2 tint is ugly blue compared to Q2 5A.
+Yellow rubber grip, gives good grip and makes it easy to find when you drop it.
+Big enough to operate with your gloves on.
+Accessories, the diffuser cone is a must when camping.
+No rocket science, just two modes in case I have to lend it to someone.
+The forward clicky is well protected.

-Too big to EDC, but for that I have Quark AA neutral white...
-No white diffuser lens, I had to make one from the red lens adapter.
-Whining on turbo on all four TK20's that I have seen.

Whining on both of the ones I have seen too.

However its not really loud enough to bother me. If the whine was a bit deeper it would almost sound cool (like the noise is because the thing is soo powerfull or something, fighter jets whine ;) )

Mine whines but only on turbo. I can hear it from a few feet away sometime and at closer range at others. Maybe based on back ground noise. My 2650 discharge in a few weeks inside the TK20 so running a test right now with some Durloops to rule out the batteries. Based on advice given on CPF the high capasity batteries should be the most likely cause not the TK20. Beyond the noise which I don't care about as mostly use the general mode and even on turbo not a big deal and the discharge with the suspected Hi cap NiMH the light is just great. The way people are talking you think the TK20 was 5lbs or something. I guess compared to some smaller EDC the TK20 is heavy. But for use in the woods it is not all that bad and like the thicker walls etc.

I should have mentioned both of the ones I have/have heard only whine on turbo also, the noise is pretty much undetectable.

As for the weight thing, i guess each people have (and are entitled) to their preferences.

Just like some people believe activating strobe by accident will kill all the women/children and puppies in the area :) , but for me if I have a torch and accidentally activate strobe now and again (as I do on my TK40) I just change modes..... and nothing diabolical has happened to me.. yet..

I do get the whining noise on turbo too, but my grip is not slipping like others say... they might have fixed that problem after some complaints... unless I'm not as tough on it as I should...

It is heavier that a TK11 and the balance is more forward, but I don't really mind. For the quality of the light, I'll live with it...

Well, I got a TK20 with loose grip - but that is no longer an issue, since I used a LEGO rubber ring to build up more tension (the rubber ring is on the battery tube before the head). It's tight enough now.

I sometimes (but very seldom) can hear this whining noise you are talking about...but if I hear it, it's rather quiet.

As a long term owner (nearly one year now) I can highly recommend this light to anyone who plans to use it outdoors. Having more throw than even the T1, the TK20 is a real pocket thrower :D. And of course, there is this nice tint...
Before I bought it, I thought about getting the L2D - but I wanted more throw, even though it meant I had no low low mode. I waited and waited - and then Fenix announced the TK20. I heard about it...guess where lovecpf
