Hi everyone,
Yes I am aware of a huge thread on the TK70 already. But I wanted to dedicate a thread on your opinions on which set of D batteries works best. Popped in some alkalines (exp 2017) and I immediately eexperienced the drop down. The brightness is equivalent to my tk35 as well. I don't even think it goes from turbo to high. Just high to medium.

Thanks,
C

Yeah this has been raised before. To get anything like the output (never mind half the quoted run time) you HAVE to use high quality, high capacity NiMH batteries.

Forget any kind of Alkalines.

Which NiMH? There are not too many choices in the > 9Ah range.

Tenergy

I have heard some say these worked well, others not.

The Energizer Web site says a fresh alkaline D cell has an internal resistance of 150 to 300 milliohms. From the reviews I've read, the TK 70 draws around up to 8 amps on "turbo" - which would use up 1.2 to 2.4 volts just to overcome the internal resistance of the battery. So, there's not enough volts out of a 1.5 volt battery , at 8 amps draw, to make any lumens. The NiMh cells have an IR of only 20 or so milliohms. At 8 amps you're losing only .16 of a volt due to the internal voltage drop - so there's still 1 volt left to make the electrons go around. Alkalines are really meant to be discharged over 20 hours or more - then you get fairly efficient use.

I’m still struggling to find some decent quality D Cells and a charger for my Fenix TK-70 I’m about to order. I’ve done a little bit more research and wanted to know if Ansmann are any good and if anyone has had any experience with them, good or bad:-

These are their 10,000mAh batteries http://www.ansmann.de/cms/en/consum...hargeable-batteries-nimh/mono-d/10000mah.html

And this is their battery management charger http://www.ansmann.de/cms/en/consumroot/chargers-and-power-supplies/xc3000.html

Thanks.
