I just received this TomTom One GPS from my friend from work for $135.00. He purchased an extra one for his sister but she did not want it. I have been looking for a GPS and I lucked out!

My friend purchased two of these on Black Friday.

This is one of the tougher plastic molded wrap I ever had to cut open.

I just got the GPS today.

My friend a work said he got the same GPS and said he used it to get to work. He said it was very accurate and worked with no problems.

Tom Tom One is great.

I spend 3 hours today using it.

The one feature that I could not find anywhere is that different voices will give u distances differently.

One English voice "Lori" will give u in feet how far until the next turn, other voices on the system will tell u not in feet but if it is a mile or quarter mile etc..

I never found this distinction documented anywhere in the Tom Tom manual.

Is Tom Tom a subscription service or will it run standalone?

The TomTom One comes with preloaded with maps of the United States and Canada.

You can buy maps, European and North American territories plus Australia, South Africa, Singapore and Hong-Kong.

They also have celebrity voices. update traffic, location of safety cameras, point of interests, scenic routes, color schemes (available soon) and audio books. All these are for purchase.

For now all I need is the maps of the United States and Canada.

Thanks. Sounds intgeresting.

Celebrity voices? Wow. I can imagine getting cussed out by Chris Rock for missing a turn.

I was looking on the TomTom website and the only celebrity is John Cleese. The rest I never heard of. Kinda of deceiving when they say celebrity voices.

TomTom is located in The Netherlands.

I just checked em out at Walmart, the v3 (newest version) is on sale for $148, regularly priced $248. May just have to swoop one or two for that price :)

I used the TomTom on the way home from work. Very accurate. I had it set up to voice. The GPS will tell you like "get ready to turn left at 300 yards. You can also set it up to read metric if you want to. There are some different choices for voices male or female, I choose a female.

I have always thought it would be nice to have a gps unit , but last night I spent about 4 hours reading through many expert reviews. The simplest to operate with the most accurate trip planning according to several sources was the
Garmin Nuvi 350. Auto dimming feature turning the display from very bright to
very subdued at night so as to not destroy ones night vision.
The major differences between the 350 vs Maestro vs the tomTom units was the Garmin units were faster and More accuate. Many unkind remards wee directed at various models and when I came home I read the reviews over again and was even more happyy that I picked the best one for me. Its a lengthy but indepth and is good reading. I picked it up and had it give me directions to home, pretty sweet.

I'll second the vote for the Nuvi 350 and up series. I have both a 350 and 650 and they are great units. I took mine camping and it was only gps that had the dirt county roads on it, including the in car $2000 option infinity gps.

Also starting with the 350 it not only has voice prompts but also text to speech, so instead of saying "turn left in .5 miles" it will say "turn left on Elm street in .5 miles."

Costco.com currently has the wide screen Nuvi 650 for $300, which is about $100 cheaper than anywhere else I have found.

I paid $135.00 for the TomTom One GPS. I think it's a great deal for the price.

I really like my TomTom One. Bought it after Consumer Reports recommended it as a "best buy". Not the latest or greatest but does what it is designed to do.

Regards.
